PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action over the weekend following a couple of weeks off, Ryan Timms rejoined the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series during a weekend double header in Missouri and Kansas.
“It was really good to get back racing,” Ryan Timms said. “We had some bad luck early in the night on Friday that set us back, but I thought we had really good speed, and on Saturday night we just seemed to struggle with our car, but I do think we figured some things out as we now head into the High Limit Series opener on Tuesday.”
Friday night Timms as his CITGO/Hampel Oil/Mystic Lubricants No. 5T team checked in at US36 Raceway to do battle with the ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’. An early issue in hot laps saw a blown right-rear tire cause severe damage to Timms’ entry and resulted in a mad scramble to make repairs prior to time trials.
Able to narrowly make it out for time trials, Timms ended up timing in 27th overall and that lined him up ninth in his heat race. Finishing eighth in heat race competition, the Oklahoma City, OK native made his way into the Last Chance Showdown where he took the green flag from the seventh starting position.
Coming to life in the semi, Timms was able to carve his way forward as he worked around the high banks of US 36 Raceway. Racing his way to the lead, Timms picked up the win and punched his ticket into the feature.
Taking the green flag from the 19th starting position in the 30-lap finale, Timms slipped back to 20th in the race’s early goings. Working into 17th by the 10th lap, the 16-year-old gasser cracked the Top-15 by lap 14.
Racing into 14th on the 23rd lap, Timms dropped back to 15th a lap later before a last lap move saw him secure 14th at the checkered.
Traveling to 81 Raceway on Saturday night to take part in the Jason Johnson Classic, Timms got off to a slow start as he timed in 24th quick before finishing sixth in his heat race.
Forced into the ‘B’, Timms would do all he could to secure a transfer position and move into the ‘A’, but on this night he finished 5th and missed the show by one position.
“It’s good for us to get to some of these places and let me get a feel for things and help us build some notes for the future,” Timms said. “I do think we learned quite a bit, and I look forward to our next challenge at Lakeside Speedway.”
