Bryan Hulbert - Dodge City, Kansas (September 2, 2012) Jeff Swindell made it a perfect weekend in the Randy Washburn owned No. 0, taking the win Sunday night in the Wicked City Shootout at Dodge City Raceway Park.
“I felt the rubber up there a little bit but it didn’t feel that strong and next thing I know I turn around and Tony [Bruce] went flying by me and I just thought oh my gosh. I couldn’t believe it” Asked about Bruce closing in on the final lap, Swindell responded, “I heard him under there but I knew as long as I stayed right there kind of in the middle he couldn’t get the run on me to clear me.”
Drawing the pole in the night’s feature event, Swindell was challenged from the start by Brian Brown. Following the Pride Ag Resources No. 0 into second, Brian Brown exchanged slide jobs with Swindell at both ends of the track before the Casey’s General Store No. 21 began to pull away.
Moving in to battle for second, front row starting Danny Wood worked the inside line on Swindell. Able to pull even on several occasions, the State Wide Services No. 81 would settle back in line before the red flag flew for Taylor Velasquez on lap six. Velasquez was uninjured.
Battling from tenth, the Oil Medics No. 18 of Tony Bruce Jr. was on the move. Taking over fourth on lap eleven Bruce utilized the high line at both ends of the track. Working past Brady Bacon on lap sixteen, slower traffic would bring the battle for the lead to a three car affair.
Working the top the first half of the race, Brian Brown would move to the bottom as Jeff Swindell and Tony Bruce Jr. continued to run the high side.
Coming around to complete lap twenty, Brown would nearly see his night end after making contact with the slower No. 9m of Ricky Montgomery exiting the bottom of turn four.
With Brown on the binders, Swindell and Bruce took over the top two spots. Pulling to the back bumper of Swindell off turn two the following lap, Tony Bruce Jr. saw the high line open. Putting all four tires in the rubber, Bruce would take the point exiting turn four with nine laps to run.
Coming around for the final three rounds, Bruce would make contact with the wall in turns one and two allowing Swindell to reclaim the lead. Moving into the tire tracks of the Washburn Motorsports No. 0, Tony Bruce Jr. would give it one last run but Swindell would not be denied his fourth career Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV victory. Tony Bruce Jr. crossed the line 0.124 seconds behind Swindell.
Brian Brown would hold onto third with Danny Wood and Brady Bacon rounding out the top five.
Wayne Johnson settled for sixth with Logan Forler seventh. Johnny Herrera was eighth with Jason Johnson and fifteenth starting Dustin Morgan rounding out the top ten.
