(Oxnard CA, Noel Dawson, August 13) On August 25th Ventura Raceway returns from the annual three week break for the Ventura County Fair, with the Race to Erase Hunger Night. Ventura Raceway is joining up with Food Share, Ventura County’s Food Bank, to offer discounted admission for the night’s event with the collection of two canned goods for each discounted admission. Fans who present two canned goods at the front gate will receive $4 off their admission price.
With the canned goods donation, adult general admission will be $10, seniors/military/students, with ID will be $7 and as always kids 12 and under are free. Fans will be treated to a full night of racing featuring the VRA Midgets, IMCA Modifieds, Sport Compacts, Go-Karts, and QRC Winged Karts.
The VRA Midgets will kick off the run to the championship. 2012 has been a breakout season for Greg Edenholm. Edenholm grabbed his first career win on April 21st and has been a front runner throughout the season. Danny Ebberts, Ronnie Gardner, and Cory Kruseman have all picked up feature wins this season.
With the absence of track champion, Trevor Fitzgibbon, Sport Compacts has been a wide open division so far. In 5 events, there have been 4 different winners including points leader Jess Carlucci. Fitzgibbon has three wins in three starts this season and his father Gary Curtis picked up his own win in the black #28. The fourth different winner of the season was first-time winner Zack Peterson on June 2.
Six top 5’s and 2 wins have put Jack Parker on top of the IMCA Modified points standings. Brad Prows is winless in 2012 but his consistency has him just 23 points behind Parker at the moment. The August 25th race will be pivotal in the Modified points fight as there will just be two races left after this night.
The Go-Karts moved to the full 1/5th mile this season and the move has produced tremendous racing. Former national champion Chris Carmody won the first race back on the big track but Cody Nigh and Justin Raper have taken control as they are 1 and 2 in the points standings.
In addition to the 4 regular VRA classes, the QRC Winged Karts will be racing on the infield track. These Karts are well-known in the northern California region and have a small following on the central coast. The QRC Karts attended the pre-season practice and had rave reviews about the short infield oval. This will be the first of two visits for the QRC Karts. Their final race will be on September 15th.
The backdrop for this night of racing is the benefits of supporting Food Share and those less fortunate in our community. Along with the fans, competitors are encouraged to participate in the food drive as well; however discounts on pit admission cannot be made available. Ventura Raceway is proud to be partnering with Food Share on a night that will showcase great racing and support for those less fortunate.
