PETERSEN MEDIA- With three races on his schedule in the states of Oregon, and Washington last week, Tony Bruce, Jr and his Bruce Racing team overcame a pesky weather system and closed out the week with a sixth place finish in Elma, Washington.
Spending the week enjoying scenic Oregon, TBJ and his boys were set for action Thursday night at the Sunset Speedway in Banks, Oregon.
Winning his heat from the front row, TBJ was set for the feature event, until the skies opened and rain began to fall forcing officials to cancel the duration of the event, and all participants received 88 show up points.
Friday night the series moved into the state of Washington for a pair of races at the Grays Harbor Raceway.
The night started off rough for TBJ as a high pill put him in the back of his heat race on a very wet track.
Not earning enough points, TBJ was forced to put his Hinchman/Pro Auto/Oil Medics No.18 in the B main, where he started in the middle of the pack.
Bruce was able to grab the sixth and final transfer spot, and put his Smiley’s/SWE/Maxwell Industries machine in the last row of the feature event.
Just like the night before, rain began falling and the feature event was postponed to Saturday afternoon.
Lining up in the 22nd position, Bruce slowly worked his way forward on the very slick racetrack.
Bruce wasn’t able to gain much ground during the feature, and scored a 15th place finish.
During the regularly scheduled Saturday night program, Bruce’s pill draw was much more favorable as he advanced to second from his fourth place starting spot, putting him in the feature, where he would start in the eighth position.
Underway, TBJ kept his ButlerBuilt/Factory Kahne/Randy’s Racing Filters entry on the high side of the speedway against the cushion.
Bruce was able to work up to the sixth spot early, and held on to it during the duration of the 30-lap feature.
Bruce was pleased with his sixth place finish at a track he admittedly struggles at.
“I usually don’t go very good in Elma (WA), but we were decent each time we hit the track,” he explained. “We brought out a new car for Lebanon (OR) and it seems to be working really well. Hopefully we can run well in California.”
Bruce would like to thank all of his sponsors, Hinchman Racewear, Pro Auto, The Oil Medics, Smileys, SWE, Maxwell Industries, FK Rod Ends, Butlerbuilt, Factory Kahne Shocks, Randy’s Racing Filters, DriversWebsites.com, Racinboys.com, Wilwood, Zemco Headers, Hoosier Tires, Gaerte Engines, Pro Powder Coating, Fuel Safe, Bell, Weld Wheels, and ISC Racer’s Tape for their support through the 2012 season.
ON TAP: TBJ and the one8 motorsports team will now head south for a trio of races in California as they hit the high banks of Placerville Speedway on Wednesday before moving south to the Kings Speedway on Saturday and the Santa Maria Speedway on Sunday.
