Brady Bacon – Pacific Northwest Bound!

(Bill W) July 11, 2012 – A pair of solid finishes with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series has Brady Bacon ready for the trip to the Pacific Northwest. Things start tonight in Great Falls, Montana at the Electric City Speedway, and move on to Oregon this weekend. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver sits third in series points as he heads west.

Things started last Friday night at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa. “We had to start seventh in the heat,” says Brady. “We got caught up with someone and damaged one of the sideboards on the wing. We were still able to finish the heat and pass a couple of cars (5th). One more car would have locked us in, but that sent us to the B.”

Brady would walk off with a commanding win in the B main. “We made some changes that really worked out in the B,” he says. “It actually helped us to run it.”

Starting 18th, Brady quickly moved forward. “We were able to pass a few cars at the beginning,” he says. “Then we were able to pick them off steadily. That got us up to seventh. We were able to slide under some of them before it took rubber. Once it took rubber, it was really hard to pass. We were able to get a couple off the top of turn three and four in the rubber, so that made it a little racy at least.”

Coming through the B is not ideal, but Brady salvaged a seventh place finish. “You really can’t complain about starting that far back and getting to where we got,” he says. “That made it a little better.”

It was on to Hartford, South Dakota and the I-90 Speedway on Saturday. “We were really good in the heat,” says Brady, who started seventh. “There were a lot of good cars in there. We were able to get by Jason (Johnson) for fourth, which was really huge. That was the difference between starting ninth in the feature or third in the B.”

Starting ninth in the main event, Brady jetted to a great start, only to have it called back. “We were really good in the A and got a good start on the original green,” he says. “The second one, I probably got the worst start I could have. I was stuck in the middle. Then Wayne (Johnson) flipped and they called it a complete lap.”

The Brady Bacon #99 was shuffled back for the restart. “On the single-file restart, I was running eleventh,” says Brady. “I was just plugging away. We could run the bottom the first few laps, and then it went away in one and two. We had a good car. We could slide people without losing much speed.”

The charge continued and Brady would claim a podium finish. “We had a good race there with (Jack) Dover for second,” he says. “At that point, the track took rubber and we settled for third. It was a good point night, and we were able to get up there in a good spot.”

Tonight’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Series event in Great Falls will be followed up with two nights at the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon Friday and Saturday.
