Ryan Timms invaded Bakersfield Speedway (Bakersfield, Cali.) on Tuesday afternoon to pilot the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports No. 97K USAC Midget for the November Classic.
With 39 USAC NOS Energry Drink Midget National Championship entries taking part in Fatheadz Eyewear qualifying, Timms timed in 17th-fastest but tumbled in turn four in his heat while running in the fourth-and-final transfer spot. Able to walk away injured, Ryan took secondary entry out for his consolation event but fell short of a transfer spot into the A-Main.
Back in action on Thursday, Ryan traveled to Placerville Speedway (Placerville, Cali.) to take part in the third annual Hangtown 100 presented by Matt Wood Racing. In a field of 49 USAC Midgets, Timms’ fourth-place finish in his heat relegated him into a B-Main for another shot at Thursday’s prelim. Needing to place third or better, Ryan tangled while battling for a transfer spot that sent him tumbling.
The following night, Timms secured his spot into Friday’s preliminary feature with a sixth-to-second charge in his heat race. Starting in second, Ryan stalked early pacesetter Buddy Kofoid and set himself within striking distance late in the 30-lapper as the leader battled through lapped-traffic. Despite late contact that sentenced him to the tail, Ryan salvaged a 20th-place finish.
On Saturday, Ryan followed up a runner-up finish in his heat with a second-place showing in his semi, locking him on the 11th row for the Hangtown 100 finale. With $22,000 on the line, Timms gained seven positions in the 100-lap affair to finish 15th.
