Inside Line Promotions – Mt. POCONO, Pa. (Nov. 7, 2022) – Joey Amantea produced a career-best season this year.
Amantea earned his first career non-wing sprint car triumph to go along with a dozen top fives and 18 top 10s. Additionally, Amantea placed a career-best fourth in the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars championship standings.
“I came into the season with three goals in mind,” he said. “I wanted to win a race, finish top five in points and be consistently in the top five. We accomplished every single one of those goals. I couldn’t be much happier growing from a team with really no knowledge to everything we have learned. I’m super grateful for the year.”
Amantea led the final third of a USAC East Coast Sprint Cars feature at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., on Aug. 6 to score his first sprint car victory. It marked one of his 10 top fives with the series.
Amantea also enjoyed a top five during micro sprint competition as well as recording his first career top five in a 410ci non-wing sprint car, highlighting a handful of starts in the division.
“It was a big challenge with us deciding my first 410 race would be during USAC Eastern Storm,” he said. “We came out the first night and went 19th to 11th and nearly every other night finished in the top 15. With having no experience I’d say that was super successful. Then to run some BOSS Series stuff and compete in the top five with those guys was huge. We were fast every time we showed up with them.”
Amantea posted a fourth-place result with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series on Oct. 7 at Latrobe Speedway in Latrobe, Pa.
Amantea credits his family and crew chief Brian Zyck, who joined the team prior to the 2022 season, with helping guide him to the breakout season.
“Me and Brian instantly clicked and worked really well together,” he said. “I never once came into the pits and said the car was terrible. We showed up every week with a fast car. I’m glad to have him around and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish in the future.”
Amantea plans to build upon the success of this season by racing full time with the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars as well as adding more 410 non-wing sprint car starts and select winged sprint car races to the 2023 schedule.
“We’re starting off in February running Florida 600 Speedweek and running the Xtreme Outlaw Sprints at Volusia,” he said. “We anticipate a plan of running 360 non-wing stuff and a lot of BOSS Series, USAC National and Xtreme Outlaw Sprints shows. We’re going to do as much winged stuff as we can to get more seat time with that as well.”
