Bloomington, Ind.—July 2, 2012— Races and more races. That’s the game plan for the month of July on the World of Outlaws circuit, as 15 main events await over a 28-day period, and for Kraig Kinser the busy stretch could not come at a better time and he and his team are hitting their stride. The busy month will open with a three-race swing through the Upper Midwest this weekend, as the series makes their lone stop of the season in both South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Kinser opens the trio of races aboard the Hendrickcars.com Maxim on Tuesday, July 3, at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., followed by a visit to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., on Friday, June 6, for the FVP Outlaw Showdown. The weekend wraps up at with the Third Annual Jim Boyd Memorial at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin on Saturday, June 7.
“This is the time of the year that as drivers we really look forward to,” said Kinser. “All of the preparation in the shop early in the season helps us build up for the next couple of months. With how strong our Hendrickcars.com car is right now, we can’t wait to get to the track each and every night.”
Kinser raced with the World of Outlaws for the first time at Huset’s Speedway in 2003. He finished a career-best second at the high-banked three-eighths-mile in 2005. The third-generation driver has picked up three Top-10 finishes in seven starts with the series at the track. Last season, Kinser finished sixth at the venue, and was seventh in 2010.
“Huset’s can be a very tricky track,” noted Kinser. “I’ve had some good runs there in the past and we’ve done pretty well on some of the smaller tracks this year, so we’ll have a good baseline to start off with. Things happen in a hurry there, so you always have to be on your toes and try to keep your nose clean and stay in a good position to be in contention.”
The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals also made his debut at Cedar Lake Speedway in 2003, finishing a career-best fourth in that event. Kinser has made a total of seven starts at the track across seven different seasons. He finished 13th at Cedar Lake in 2011.
“Cedar Lake is always a very fast track,” shared Kinser of the high-banked three-eighths-mile. “I’ve had a couple of really good runs there, though kind of struggled the last few times we were there. We’ve done pretty well on the three-eighths-miles and higher banked tracks this year, so I’m looking forward to hitting the track there on Friday.”
Kinser made his first trip to Beaver Dam Raceway with the World of Outlaws in 2003 as well. He finished a career-best seventh the following year and has made a total of nine starts at the high-banked one-third-mile bullring in seven different seasons. Kinser has picked up four Top-10 finishes at the track, including in two of his last three starts.
“We used to run at Beaver Dam a couple of times a year, so I have a lot of laps around that place,” noted Kinser. “The car count is usually pretty good with a lot of the Wisconsin and Midwest guys coming over, so qualifying and track position is important. We’ve done a good job this year of getting into the dash more times than not to start at the front, and help put ourselves in a spot to contend for wins.”
Kinser is currently sixth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, less than 30 markers out of the Top-Five and 96 points out of the lead, on the strength of three wins, 23 Top-10 and 12 Top-Five finishes.
