Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2022) – Dominic Scelzi recorded top-five performances during 360ci and 410ci winged sprint car starts at Keller Auto Speedway last weekend.

The action began on Friday when he set quick time in his Sprint Car Challenge Tour group. A run from fourth to second place in a heat race advanced Scelzi into the dash, which he won to garner the pole position for the main event.

“We were good all night, but just didn’t hit it right in the feature,” he said. “The race track was pretty fast throughout the night and in the feature it slicked up. We just sort of missed. We struggled getting off the corner. We fell back to third or fourth pretty quickly. There at the end of the race I felt like everybody was slowing down toward our speed.”

Scelzi ended third, which was his 23rd top five of the season.

The team returned to the track on Saturday for King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series competition during the Morrie Williams Twin 20s Memorial. Scelzi was fourth quickest and a runner-up result in a heat race earned a spot into the dash. A fifth-place outing started him on the inside of the third row in the first of twin A Mains.

“The track wasn’t very racy so it made it tough,” he said. “We ran fifth the entire feature until someone crashed and we gained a spot to end fourth. It was just hard to maneuver for the 20 laps.”

Scelzi’s fourth-place run added to his lead in the championship standings, giving him a 39-point advantage with four points races remaining.

The night’s second feature was inverted, which gave Scelzi the 12th starting spot.

“The racing was better in the second race and luckily it was fully inverted,” he said. “We were good the first couple of laps, but then were just right there. We need to get back to the speed we had at the beginning of the year.”

Scelzi ended ninth for his 34th top 10 of the season.

The team returns to series competition this Friday at Keller Auto Speedway during the Anthony Simone Classic and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., during The Dennis Roth Classic.
