Cole Vanderheiden returned to the driver's seat on Friday night for the opening round of the Tiny Lund Memorial doubleheader at Shelby County Speedway (Harlan, Iowa).
Twenty-nine IMCA RaceSaver Sprint competitors registered for battle, and Cole slid backwards from fourth to fifth in his heat race, which relegated him to a B-Main.
A third-place finish in the B-Main, locked Cole into the main event, where he hard-charged to a 12th-place finish.
The final night of the event came to life on Saturday evening, and Vanderheiden's outing began with a fifth-place finish in his heat race.
Lining up 18th for the feature, he raced past four competitors to cross the finish line in 14th.
