Tulsa, Oklahoma (June 26, 2012) As the mercury begins to rise around the United States, five regions with the American Sprint Car Series are scheduled to host competition this weekend in Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Michigan.
Sunoco Fuels ASCS Canyon Region:
After venturing into west Texas and southern New Mexico, the ASCS Canyon Region is back in Arizona after a two week break. Regrouping for the 2nd annual Summer Sizzle at Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park, Charles Davis Jr. leads the field with a 51 point advantage over defending Summer Sizzle champion R.J. Johnson.
Dalten Gabbard rounds out the podium entering this weekend’s Summer Sizzle some 94 markers out of the lead. Taking his first win with the ASCS Canyon Region at Canyon Speedway Park earlier this year, the native of Peoria has an average finish of fifth at the Arizona oval. Bruce St. James and Rick Ziehl currently round out the top five in series standings with Chris Bonneau, Brian Hossford, Justin Quinn, Bob Ream Jr., and Andy Reinbold filling out the remainder of the top ten.
This weekend’s events at the Canyon Speedway Park are scheduled for Saturday June 30th with front gates opening at 5pm and racing beginning at 7pm.
Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest Region:
Since returning to the Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest Region, Jack Dover has been on a roll taking back to back wins along with earning high points during the Eagle Nationals. Currently fifth in points after missing the first two shows of the season while attempting to compete on the nationals level, Dover has made up significant ground on his hopes for back to back Midwest Championships.
Trevor Grossenbacher currently sits fourth with Ryan Roberts third. Both drivers have earned a single win in 2012 with Grossenbacher earning high points on night one of the Eagle Nationals, while series leader Stu Snyder and current runner up Jordan Boston are without a victory.
Leading the series on consistency, Snyder has eight top ten runs to go along with four top five finishes while Boston has just as many top fives but only five top ten finishes.
The Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest Region will headline Friday’s show at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska. The June 29th event will see the front gates opening at 4pm with racing getting underway at 7:15pm
American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region:
After pairing with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV this past Friday night at the Salina Highbanks Speedway, the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner region makes its second appearance of 2012 at Creek County Speedway this Friday June 29th.
Taking a hard hit at Lucas Oil Speedway, point’s leader Matt Covington is no worse for wear. Suffering a bruised knee, the driver of the O.E.M. No. 11c will be at Creek County Speedway.
Trailing by 54 points, reigning series champion Joe Wood Jr. has been winless in 2012. Earning second place points at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in round one of the Oil Medics Red River Rumble, the Oklahoma City racer has an average finish if fifth in 2012.
Vying for the Car and Fleet Rookie of the year honors, Mustang, Oklahoma’s Shane Sellers holds good position in third over series veterans Michelle Decker and team mate Robert Sellers. Jesse Frazier, Joe Bob Lee, Kyle Chady, Sean McClelland, and Danny Jennings currently round out the top ten.
This weekend’s events at Creek County Speedway are scheduled for Friday June 29th with front gates opening at 5pm and racing beginning at 8pm.
Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP:
Losing three straight races to rain, the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP are scheduled to give it a go this Friday June 29th at Mount Pleasant Speedway in Mount Pleasant, MI and Saturday June 30th at Merritt Speedway in Merritt, MI.
Taking the early season lead by 23 markers, Jared Horstman has the equivalent of two wins after taking high point honors in a pair of events co-sanctioned with the NRA Sprint Invaders. Currently second is Darren Long who enters this weekend with eleven series wins, including the 2012 season opener at Crystal Motor Speedway.
Gregg Dalman currently rounds out the top three with an early season point’s average that equals the S.O.D. veterans show position. Ryan Ruhl sits fourth with two time S.O.D Champion Brett Mann rounding out the top five while Robert Huisken, Ryan Grubaugh, Andy Teunessen, Dustin Daggett, and Greg Wheeler fill out the remainder of the top ten.
Events on Friday June 29th at Mount Pleasant will see grandstands opening at 5pm with racing starting at 7:45pm. Events at Merritt on Saturday June 30th will begin 7:30pm.
ASCS 305
The inaugural season for the ASCS 305 continues to grow with a pair of races in New Mexico. Presented by Jars Inc. out of Hobbs, New Mexico Friday June 29th events at Cardinal Speedway in Eunice, New Mexico will featuring a row by row challenge that will see drivers qualifying from the front row given a chance to drop to the tail for a shot a $5,000 should the accepting driver win. If no one in the front row accepts, the offer goes to $4,000 for either driver in the second row, then $3,000 for drivers in row three, and finally $2,000 for drivers in the fourth row.
Saturday June 30th feature events at White Sands Speedway in Tularosa, New Mexico will feature a $1,500 to win feature event and will be co-sanctioned with the local ASCS Renegade Sprint Cars.
Races at Cardinal Speedway on Friday June 29th begin at 8pm. White Sands Speedway on Saturday June 30th will begin at 7:45pm.
The 2012 season marks the 21st year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
