Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Sept. 6, 2022) – Garet Williamson tied a career-best 410ci winged sprint car result with a second-place showing on Sunday during the finale of the Fall Sprint and Midget Nationals hosted by Lake Ozark Speedway.
Williamson led the Bryant Paver Motorsports team to a sixth-place effort on Saturday before the runner-up result on Sunday during POWRi Outlaw 410 Sprint League competition.
“I think overall it went all right,” he said. “We learned a lot. It was mainly me and my tire guy all weekend so it was a good learning experience for both of us. We changed a lot of stuff after our heat race on Saturday and I felt really good in the A Main. That changed our starting point for Sunday.”
Williamson kicked off the doubleheader by qualifying 12th quickest on Saturday. A third-place result in a heat race lined him up on the inside of the seventh row in the main event.
“The changes we made gave me a comfortable car and a car I could race,” he said. “I was up to almost fifth before I hopped a tire. I fell back to eighth or ninth in the last six or seven laps and had to charge back to sixth. I had a fast race car. It was a challenging night. You had to be picky on your moves and the decisions you made.”
The run from 13th to sixth was tied for the third-most positions gained in the feature.
Sunday’s program started better with Williamson timing in 10th quickest before he won a heat race. This time he ranked fifth in overall points to garner the fifth starting spot in the A Main.
“I capitalized on guys’ mistakes,” he said. “The track was very tricky again. I paid attention to where guys were tripping on the cushion and I maneuvered my lines. You could slide yourself or enter above the cushion and drive through it. It was a racy track; just the cushion was huge and would get you upset very quick.
“We had a green-white-checkered restart and I slid the leader going into turn one. I spun the tires on the restart and couldn’t get in front of him so that was as close as we got.”
The second-place run was Williamson’s 19th top five of the season.
