Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Sept. 6, 2022) – Jordon Mallett earned his third top 10 of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Saturday during the Fall Sprint and Midget Nationals.
Mallett hustled from 17th to seventh – tied for the most positions gained – in the feature at Lake Ozark Speedway for his 15th total top 10 of the year.
“We ran well,” he said. “I wasn’t real happy with the car in hot laps. I just couldn’t get it balanced where I wanted it. The track was treacherous and had a big curb and was narrow. We got ourselves in a hole having to run the B Main.”
Mallett qualified fifth quickest in his group and he gained one spot in a heat race to place fourth, which relegated him to a B Main. Mallett won the consolation race to transfer into the main event.
“We had a really good race car and I made some progress in the B Main,” he said. “We tuned on it and for the feature it came to life. I could run wherever I needed and I felt good.”
Mallett’s charge to a seventh-place result gave the team momentum entering Sunday.
“I thought we’ll run the 410 deal, too, because that’s just extra start money and an extra race for laps,” he said.
Mallett did double duty, running his sprint car in the POWRi Outlaw 410 Sprint League portion of the program as well as during the ASCS National Tour action.
“In the 410s we qualified 17th and I felt like I was terrible,” he said. “We ran the heat race and gained a spot to finish fifth. I thought if we can roll pretty good we won’t start and park. We were about four laps in and I was trying to break into the top 10. I thought, ‘We’re okay and can do this.’
“We were pretty good. About the time I thought all was going well I broke a left front steering arm about four laps in. When it broke I had no steering. Since it broke on the left front it broke the brake caliper and brake line off. The car eased its way to the outside wall. That’s why I didn’t get to run the ASCS feature.”
Mallett was credited with a DNF in the 410 sprint car feature and he was unable to compete in the ASCS National Tour main event, in which he was slated to start eighth after qualifying third quickest in his group and earning a runner-up result in a heat race.
“It was disappointing,” he said. “I knew if our car was that good against the 410s and we were getting to start eighth in the ASCS race that we were going to be pretty good.”
Mallett plans to head to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., this Saturday for the Ralph Henson Memorial with the ASCS Mid-South Region.
