(Oxnard, CA. 6-20-12) Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday night June 23 with a full program of exciting racing action on its dirt oval located at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Saturday night we will feature our VRA 360 Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars, VRA Focus Midgets, Mod Lites and our three kid's classes. All the drivers in each class will be going all out to score points to see who will be on top in the season long point's race when racing concludes in October.
VRA 360 Sprints are back after three weeks off to resume their highly competitive form of all out racing action. Battling at speeds up to 80 mph around Ventura's tight 1/5 mile oval always keeps fans on the edge of their seats. Point leader Kyle Smith leads the field into Saturday's racing. He leads Brian Camarillo, Tom Hendricks, John Nock and last race winner Clark Templeman III after six previous events in their 2012 season. All the other top VRA stars are expected to be here to try to move up in the point race.
VRA Dwarf cars are back to continue their season long battle to see who will come out on top of the two classes racing. In Seniors, Bill VanPraag leads George Calvo by 30 points while in Pros Ray Estrada leads Randy Gordon by 50 points after four races. With over 30 Dwarf cars expected to compete this week we expect the racing to be top notch.
VRA Focus Midgets are on the card as well Saturday night. These Ford Focus powered midget racers have put on very good racing so far in 2012. Wally Pankratz leads Parker Colston by 5 points in the season long point race going into competition.
The final adult class racing this week is our new Mod Lite class. Dave Dotson leads Mike Sweeney in the point race by 165 points after five races in their 2012 season. This new class is in its second season and as it grows in car count we can expect some exciting racing action.
Our three VRA Kid's divisions are back to entertain our fans as well. VRA Mini Dwarf Pistons and Mini Dwarf Superchargers will be racing as will our Junior Midgets. Point leaders Nick Velasquez in Superchargers and Devin McCree in Junior Midgets will resume their battle to try to take their respective series championships. Drivers in the Piston class do not race for points so there is no point leader. Blake Hendricks has won three of the first four races with Zack Chavez taking the other win in their 2012 season.
Pit gates will open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:00. Cars go on the track for warm ups and preliminaries at 3:30 with racing getting under way at 5:30. Admission prices for this event are $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors. Kids 12 and under are free.
