Another strong turnout for the IRA Lightning Sprints as 19 cars checked in to do battle as part of an all IRA show in one of the biggest races of the year during the Kenosha County Fair at Wilmot Raceway. The evening started with the K9 of Andrew Kiedrowski setting quick time of the evening. The 55H of Mark Heinert and the 13 of CJ Malueg would claim heat race victories and the feature would see the 6B of Derek Fortier and the B20 of Tom Brown – all the way from Nebraska and back racing with the ILS for what is turning out to be a yearly trip – lead the field to green. Fortier would take command early, but Brown was able to rocket past on lap 4 to take over the lead and would bring Heinert with him a lap later. Brown and Heinert would then continue to battle through heavy lapped traffic and trade the lead a few times before a caution on lap 12 would line the field back up single file. On the restart, Brown led Heinert and the 16 of Mike Neau back to the green. Neau was able to get under both Heinert and Brown on lap 14 and would go on to win his 4th feature of the year and 2nd in a row. Brown and Heinert would round out the podium. The IRA Lightning sprints will be back in action with a double header weekend as they make their final appearance this year at Wilmot Raceway for track championship night on Saturday September 3rd and then back up to 141 Speedway on Sunday September 4th for an all IRA show. The season finale will then take place as usual at Plymouth Dirt Track for the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships on Saturday, September 24th with a 4 division sprint car show!
