After a week off to run our motorcycle series, VRA Midgets return to action this Saturday night June 16 at 5:30 in the second Battle At the Beach Race of 2012. We will also be highlighting VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Sport Compacts, VRA Go Karts and our new VRA Quad Series. All will be in action on Ventura Raceways tight, highly competitive 1/5 mile oval.
VRA Midgets are returning to continue their season after earlier competition this season. Returning drivers will be racing to see who will come out on top of the points race in the VRA Midget Series standings. We will also continue our new point system that allows drivers who get a poor pill draw a better chance to move into the main event or receive a higher semi main starting position. This change has been working out very well so far in 2012. We hope to see most of our top drivers back Saturday night to compete for the season championship that was won by Cory Kruseman in 2011. The class will compete in a series of 8 lap heats, semi mains as needed and a 30 lap feature. Wins so far in 2012 have gone to Greg Edenholm, Cory Kruseman and Danny Ebberts. Edenholm leads the point race by 35 points over Jake Swanson.
VRA Senior Sprints are on the card Saturday with their own hotly contested form of racing that sees Victor Davis out front in the points race over Clif Warren and Davis’ teammate Bruce Douglass. Douglass and Davis have each won races in this series in 2012. These over 45 year old racers always put on a great show driving their 360 sprint cars.
IMCA Modifieds return to action with point leader Jack Parker leading them into competition. After six races so far Parker leads Brad Prows, Wayne Heurung and Mark Davis in the season point race. All these drivers will be out to make their moves in the season long point battle.
VRA Go Karts return after their last race June 2 was won by Richard Renken. After four races Cody Nigh leads Kenny Byers Jr by 20 points. Saturday night Renken will be back to go for two in a row over the rest of the VRA Kart racers as they race on the VRA big 1/5 mile track..
Our new VRA Quad racing series continues with quad racers racing in two classes, the Open Division for all out racing quads and the Sportsman Division for stock quads. With many racers expected to take up the new series challenge, racing will be fast and furious. Last race winner Matt Williams will be here to continue his run to try to be our first VRA Quad Champion.
The final class racing is our VRA Sport Compacts. Point leader Jess Carlucci leads the field into competition this weekend. He leads James Adler and last race winner Zachary Peterson in the season point race by 10 and 25 points respectively.
Pit gates will open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:00. Cars go on the track for warm ups and preliminaries at 3:30 with racing getting under way at 5:30. Admission prices for this event are $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors. Kids 12 and under are free.
