A packed house and a bulging pit area of over 150 racers would arrive at the Valley on Friday Night to participate in the Briscoe Run Land Surveying 2nd Annual Pete Smith Memorial presented by Smoker Friendly. A picture perfect weather night would see 28 fast OVSCA Sprint Cars arrive to race in honor of the late Pete Smith with Holmesville Ohio’s Lee Jacobs picking up the big win. Also garnering trips to the KMA Auto Victory Lane were Tyler Evans, KC Burdette, Brandon Francis, Jacob McDaniel, Karson Burdette and Colin Knox.
The 2nd Annual Pete Smith Memorial would be first up with the #25 of Chris Myers laying down the J&M Tree Service fast time and Lee Jacobs, Kory Crabtree and Hunter Lynch bagging the three heat races. In the 25 lap A-Main it would be Holmesville, Ohio’s Lee Jacobs blasting off the front row in convincing fashion to lead the twenty car field. As Jacobs was slicing and dicing thru lapped traffic, Ricky Peterson was following and waiting for a mistake by the driver of the 81 machine. A few times in heavy traffic, Peterson would appear to be closing but the fast hot rod of Jacobs was too much as the talented shoe would become the 2nd Annual Pete Smith victor in front of the appreciative crowd. Following Jacobs across the stripe was Peterson, Tyler Street, Kory Crabtree and Hud Horton.
A strong 28 car field of Las Trancas Super Lates would take to the track with Mineral Wells, WV’s Tyler Evans notching his first win of the season. A part time racer in 2022, the talented Evans would have no problem shaking the rust off as the pilot of the 17t was set on kill all evening long. It would not be an easy W however as he had a race long rear view mirror full look at a very game Derek Rogers. Rogers would apply persistent pressure throughout the event but Evans would never waiver. Evans would park his ride in the KMA Auto Victory Lane ahead of Rogers, Freddie Carpenter, Zach Hill and newcomer Avery Taylor.
Parkersburg, WV’s KC Burdette would make it six in a row in the Polymer Services UMP Modified division. The hotshoe of the KC44 would hold off a pesky Kyle Bond to secure the win as the duo were followed across the line by point leader Kenny Johnson, Cole Perine and Larry Bond.
Another strong field of 27 Pike Street Lanes Sportmods would see Brandon Francis aboard the 905 Francis Motorsports entry collect his first trip to the KMA Auto Victory Lane of the season at the Valley. Francis would best Cruz Vandall, Steven Dotson, Kendall Hodge with Toby Wilson rounding out the top five.
Picking up his second win of the season was Belpre, Ohio’s Jacob McDaniel in the Bill’s Auto Salvage SCDRA 4 Cylinder division. While McDaniel has had a stranglehold on the ‘Bullring’ victory lane on Saturday Night, it has been a lot of hard luck on Friday’s for the likeable driver of the McWilson Performance #22. McDaniel would notch his second trip to the KMA Victory circle ahead of Chris Wise, Chris Dyer, Joey Price and Sam Dickel.
Kicking off the action on the 2nd Annual Pete Smith Memorial would be the Mike’s Auto Body WRA Mini Wedges. It’s always great to see first time winners and that’s what we got in both divisions on Friday Night as both Colin Knox and Karson Burdette bagged their first wins of the season. Picking up the Veteran feature was Colin Knox over James Bailey and Tanner Ritchea while Karson Burdette scored the Young Gun feature over Walker Slayton and Easton Mayle.
Special thanks to Darren Griffith and Valerie Myers on making the 2nd Annual Pete Smith a great event and to all the sponsors who stepped up and gave the drivers a multitude of bonuses. Also kudos to the Toys for Tots organization and those donating ‘Backpacks’ for the kids.
Join us next Friday Night, August 19th for the KIDS Night of Wheels as we pay tribute to the kiddos with a BIKE Giveaway, Power Wheels Race and WRA ‘King of the Valley’ plus the rescheduled $1,000 to win Sportmod OH/WV Border Wars!
