Inside Line Promotions – PARK CITY, Kan. (Aug. 2, 2022) – Jordon Mallett placed 10th in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek standings.

A pair of top fives highlighted the spectacle, which was shortened after rain forced the cancelation of the final two nights last weekend.

“To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed,” Mallett said. “I just didn’t feel like we had a good chance to show the speed we had. Sometimes things just don’t go in the right direction.

“We had a good top five at Batesville and then we didn’t run good at Little Rock. Then we had another top five at Tulsa. Then the next two nights we didn’t run in the top 10. That was kind of aggravating because the results didn’t show our speed, but as competitive as everything is it all has to go right.”

Mallett fought ignition woes a week ago Tuesday at Tulsa Speedway in Tulsa, Okla.

“Right off the bat I had ignition problems and in qualifying I only got to do one lap, which wasn’t a good lap but was good enough to get us in the heat race inversion,” he said. “We fought ignition problems again in the heat race, but held onto second to punch our ticket into the show. We got it resolved for the feature, but the track was so narrow it was tough to pass on.”

Mallett, who qualified fourth quickest in his group and placed second in his heat race, advanced from eighth to fifth in the main event.

On Wednesday he qualified third in his group and won a heat race before ending 19th in the feature at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan.

“We were really, really good the last time we were there,” he said. “I messed up and got myself way too tight. I dialed myself out going off what worked there in the past and the track never progressed for that to shine. I lost a lot of spots within the first two or three laps. I was so tight I was pushing through the corners like a modified. As the race went on and the track started cleaning off and chattering tires I pulled off to save tire wear.”

Speedweek ended on Thursday at 81 Speedway, where Mallett was second quickest in his group. He finished fifth in a heat race and 12th in the A Main.

“They have new ownership,” he said. “I’ll give them credit; they did an awesome job with the facility. Everything is super nice. The dirt was 180 degrees different than anything I had notes on. The track used to slick off and be really abrasive on tires. It had some character and chop to it. It was super tacky, just wide open and hammer down all night long. It was tough to make up much ground.”

Mallett plans to return to action Aug. 12 at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, Ga., and Aug. 13 at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Ga., with the USCS Series.
