Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 27, 2022) – Garet Williamson recorded his 27th top-10 result of the season last Friday during the opening round of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.
Williamson timed in fourth quickest in his group before guiding the Bryant Paver Motorsports No. 24 sprint car to a third-place result in a heat race. He capped the night by advancing from 12th to eighth in the A Main.
“I should have went to the bottom sooner in the heat race,” he said. “That hurt our starting position in the feature and the track took rubber on Lap 1. When people would miss the rubber we’d get underneath them. Otherwise we were riding around for 25 laps.”
Williamson also competed during a Speedweek event on Saturday at I-30 Speedway, where he qualified second quickest in his group. A third-place result in a heat race was followed an engine change prior to the feature. That forced the team to line up on the outside of the eighth row in the A Main. Once again track position was critical and Williamson gained a handful of positions for a 12th-place outing.
“We were running second in the heat race when mechanical problems slowed us,” he said. “I limped it home to hold onto third. We had to start 16th because of the engine change. The track took rubber on the bottom within the first few laps. I got into the top 10, but tried to make the top work too long. I fell back a couple of spots before I got back down to the bottom in the rubber.”
Williamson and the team are shifting gears and will be racing at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Saturday in preparation for the upcoming 360 Knoxville Nationals.
“We’re taking a new car, but I think we’ll be fine,” he said. “Hopefully we can continue learning and make more consistent laps and I think we’ll be in a good spot. We’ve been super good there. I think all it’d take for us to be contenders is coming off the first couple of rows.”
