Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 27, 2022) – Derek Hagar earned results of second and sixth, respectively, last weekend during the first two rounds of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.
The action began on Friday at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, Ark., where Hagar timed in third quickest in his group. A heat race win placed him in the fifth starting position in the main event.
“We got by a car on the bottom on a restart,” he said. “Everyone saw it work so they were telling their drivers to go to the bottom. That took my lane away. It got diced up in traffic. I was able to get to second and close on Tim (Crawley) for the lead at the end. He made the right move and made it stick on the last lap. I didn’t want to get out of the rubber and get stuck out in the slick so I made a decision to try not to lose any positions knowing I wouldn’t have had enough time to pass the lapped cars into turn one.”
Hagar’s second-place showing was his 14th top five of the season.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at I-30 Speedway, where Hagar was third quickest in his group before he finished second in a heat race.
“We hot lapped and qualified at the same time to speed up the program,” he said. “I had a good race with Tim in the heat race. He was on the pole and I started second. I made a couple of bids for the lead, but couldn’t get by him. I had to settle for second, which put us starting 11th in the feature. We had to play catchup the rest of the night. The track took rubber so everyone was fighting for the bottom. We got what we could.”
Hagar advanced from 11th to sixth in the A Main.
“It was a good weekend,” he said. “I’d have liked to see better results on Saturday, but on Friday we were in the hunt. We were able to put a little money in the bank and get ready for this weekend. Hopefully we can get win No. 10 this Saturday.”
Hagar plans to return to I-30 Speedway on Saturday in search of his 10th victory of the season.
