JUNE 2, 2012 – PETALUMA, CA: On a breezy June evening that found the Petaluma Speedway 3/8 mile adobe oval tacky and fast, Geoff Ensign captured his second straight Pit Stop USA Sprint Car Series victory Saturday night.
The first 9 laps of the feature were some of the most exciting in recent memory as Ensign, Billy Butler and Bradley Terrell fought hard for the top spot. After several laps of two and three wide racing with Butler leading, Terrell stormed to the front and looked like he had the car to beat until he came to a stop in turn two on lap number 10 handing the lead to back to Butler.
Ensign continued to pressure Butler for the lead, and then managed a pass on Lap 12. Ensign worked lapped traffic perfectly while a lightning fast Dave Lindt Jr. climbed from the seventh-starting position to third then passed Butler on Lap 19. Ensign, whose first job in racing was working as a crew member for Lindt, and held him off giving car owner Brett Lay his second straight win and a fantastic birthday present. Butler finished third with Terrell coming all the way from the back to finish fourth and took over the series point lead. Matthew Haulot had a career best fifth place finish. Art McCarthy, Kenny Drew, Ivan Worden, Chase Johnson, and Chase Wood rounded out the top ten.
