Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (July 11, 2022) – Joey Amantea captured his second top 10 of the season at Williams Grove Speedway last Friday during a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars event.
A high pill draw lined Amantea up toward the rear of the field in a heat race, but a run from ninth to sixth earned the 11th starting position in the main event.
“In the heat race they were taking four to the feature redraw,” he said. “I ended up running fifth most of it and fell back a spot at the end.”
Amantea continued to make gains in the feature as he picked up a handful of positions to finish seventh – his second-best result at the track.
“For about the first 15 laps I was trying everything and nothing was working,” he said. “A caution came out and I decided to try something for the rest of the race. It worked and we were really fast. I think a couple more laps and we could have had a top five. Overall, it felt like a bit of an off night for me, but a seventh is not too much to complain about.”
Amantea returns to USAC East Coast Sprint Cars competition this Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., where he will also compete in a micro sprint.
“I’m looking for a top five,” he said. “Honestly, I think we can contend for the win in both cars, but we’d like to have some solid runs. It will be about track position and some luck.”
This week concludes on Friday at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa.
