(SUSQUEHANNA, PA) – Aside from checkered flags and Victory Lane interviews, there was a very special purpose that took center stage on Friday night at Penn Can Speedway.
Penn Can Speedway officials held a fundraiser that raised awareness for Autism and those on the Autism spectrum. Officials attended last weekend’s CRSA event at Thunder Mountain Speedway and took a liking to the performance put on by Trevor Years’ No. 13T. Years’ brother Eric is on the spectrum and the puzzle pieces design on Trevor and Eric’s car has been a theme throughout their racing career.
In fact, Eric drivers a DIRTcar Sportsman car at Land of Legends Raceway and has been an inspiration to many in the Finger Lakes. But for the Years family- an event like this so far from home was not only unexpected but very much welcomed. Penn Can Speedway officials donated all proceeds from the fundraiser to Trevor’s charity of choice- Happiness House in Geneva, NY.
According to their website, Happiness House is an educational, residential, health and human service organization that excels in providing the highest quality, innovative and cost-effective services to children and adults with and without disabilities through collaboration with families and partners throughout the Finger Lakes community. Our belief in the principles of equal opportunity, independence and realization of individual potential is the cornerstone of who we are and what we do. We believe “What Happens Here Changes Lives Forever”.
During CRSA Sprints Victory Lane on Friday night volunteers of the fundraiser gathered to present Years with the money raised to donate to Happiness House. Evan, also on the Autism spectrum, delivered the amazing news in front of the entire crowd that their fundraising efforts were sending Years home with $2,009!
“This is so amazing, thank you to Penn Can Speedway and their fans,” thanked Years to the crowd.
“This donation is going to help a lot of people where we live and it means a lot that this group of people this far away were willing to put this together.”
Words echoed by CRSA Sprint Tour Director Mike Emhof.
“It surprises nobody that the great fans of Penn Can Speedway and their staff have come together to make such a sizable donation for a great cause. We love coming to Penn Can to race, the fans are always great to us and our drivers. But this kind of generosity to help benefit so many who these fans may never meet is truly a special thing.”
Happiness House is located in Geneva, NY and are easily found on Facebook by searching @HappinessHouseCP as well as online at www.happinesshouse.org.
