Dillon Bickett showed the way for all 20 laps in Friday night’s Spielman Excavating IMCA Sprint Car feature to claim his first win since starting his racing career in 2021. Zach Olivier, Camden Myers and Dustin Gulbrandson also claimed Friday victories.
For Bickett, the road to victory was not simple. The 20-lap feature went non-stop forcing the young driver to lap deep into the field. Behind him the battle for second was intense between Nate Barger and Lee Goos Jr. with Barger getting the better end of that one. Sam Henderson raced from ninth to place fourth with Koby Werkmeister in fifth.
It was a race-winning move on a restart for Olivier as he took command of the T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stocks main event. Olivier claimed his third trophy of the year and win 27 of his career at I-90 Speedway. Matt Steuerwald was the leader of the first eleven laps and placed second ahead of Dan Jensen. Tim Dann and Brylee Gough completed the top five.
Myers win in the USRA B-Modified class was particularly impressive as he claimed hard-charger honors in doing so. The defending track champion started eleventh and made his way to the lead on lap six. From there, he’d work his way through traffic to take his second win of 2022 and win 6 of his career at I-90 Speedway. Dustin Kruse, Miah Christensen, Corbin Erickson and Aaron DeThury completed the top five.
Gulbrandson’s win in the LawnSnow.com USRA Hobby Stock feature marked his third of the year at the Hartford, South Dakota, track. It also is win 31 of his career where he is a three-time champion. Nick Brady was second ahead of Bryant Klaassen. Tracy Halouska and Blake Schneekloth completed the top five.
I-90 Speedway completes the Freedom Classic weekend on Saturday with fireworks after the races. The IMCA sprints will compete for $1500 to win.
