The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Series took to the road this weekend and headed north of their usual stomping grounds in Southern Wisconsin and Illinois for a two night swing of racing action, first to the Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton, WI.
On a slick track surface, A Feature polesitter Daltyn England jumped out to the race lead and began to build a lead over the rest of the field. However, the action was for second place with Kyle Koch, Mike Stroik, RJ Corson and a hard charging Todd Kleuver running nose to tail and exchanging the final podium positions. Later on in the 25 Lap A Main, Stroik solidified his 9S machine in the second spot and began to close in on England’s 19E for the lead. The youngster who had led from the drop of the green would not be fazed, and held off Stroik and Koch to take his first career Badger Midget Feature win on the ¼ mile bullring.
Friday’s Schoenfeld Headers Quick Time Award went to Todd Kluever, Madison Extinguisher Service Heat 1 went to Kyle Koch, Simpson Race Products Heat 2 was won by Derek Doerr, and current series Points Leader Zach Boden took the win in Auto Meter Heat 3. Zach Boden also took home the Howard Law Cash Draw.
The AFS Badger Midgets then took the tour north to the Tomahawk Speedway in Tomahawk, WI, and Daltyn England once again emerged as a contender for his second career and second straight A Main win.
From the third starting position, England moved into second on the opening lap and began to close in on polesitter Dave Collins Jr. for the top spot. On lap 9, England’s 19E once again found itself leading the field as the Springfield, IL native powered to the front. Meanwhile, Kyle Stark, RJ Corson, Collins Jr. and a hard charging Nick Baran started a fierce battle for second on back, with Stark and Baran emerging late in the race to try and reel in England.
With seven laps to go, the yellow flag flew and set the field up for a short sprint to the finish. England led the field back to green, but officials noted that the restart cone had been hit on the front stretch. The BMARA rulebook states that the penalty should be assessed on the next flag, and the field was free to race for the final laps. England crossed under the double checkers first, with 17th starting Nick Baran charging past Kyle Stark to take second. After the race, BMARA officials immediately began to review the race footage to determine which car hit the restart cone, and thus would incur a 2 spot penalty towards their race finish. Unfortunately, the 19E of Daltyn England was found to be the car that hit the cone, and the official finish was changed according to the rules and Nick Baran was declared the winner of the Tomahawk Speedway Feature. Kyle Stark would be awarded second with England being placed back in third.
Saturday’s Schoenfeld Headers Quick Time Award went to Todd Kluever for the second straight night. Auto Meter Heat 1 was won by Tyler Baran, and Todd Kluever took the checkered flag in Simpson Race Products Heat 2. Kyle Koch went home with the Howard Law Cash Draw.
The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midgets will head back to Angell Park Speedway on Sunday, June 26th for the first running of the “K.O. Klassic”, honoring midget racing legend Kevin Olson. Tickets will be available at the track, with on track action getting underway at 5PM.
