PETERSEN MEDIA- After making just a handful of 410 starts in 2012, Tony Bruce, Jr, and his one8 Motorsports team made a Friday night stop at the opening night for Rock Rapid Speedway and the Owasso, OK resident picked up his second win of 2012.
Bruce, a regular on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, took advantage of the series’ off weekend and bolted in his 410 engine for a pair of stops over the weekend.
Kicking things off at Rock Rapid Speedway, Bruce had a gut feeling they’d be the car to beat after hot-laps.
“The car was working perfect in hot-laps and I just knew we’d be a very tough car that night,” he said.
Lining up eight in his heat, TBJ had a brilliant start, and shot to the front of the field in a hurry.
Scoring second in the heat, Bruce, Jr found himself in the re-draw, where he pulled a four- putting him in the second row.
When the feature went green, Bruce bid his time for a few laps, and jumped into the lead on the third circuit, and drove a strong race that saw him keep the field at bay.
At the stripe Bruce, Jr found himself in victory lane for the second time this year.
“I can’t thank all the supporters who back our team enough for letting us get out here and race every week,” said Bruce.
Saturday night saw the team head back to the Knoxville Raceway for another night of action with their 410 motor.
The night got off to a rough start for TBJ and his team as they hurt their motor during time trials, and opted to stick a 360ci motor in rather then call it a night.
“We only had one 410 with us, so rather than call it a night, we decided to put the 360 in and try to test some stuff.
The test went well for the Pro Auto/Oil Meidcs/SWE backed machine, and TBJ was able to work form his 23rd starting spot to score a 14th place finish against a full field of 410 powered cars.
“It’s not fun losing a motor, but I’m pleased with the way our 360 ran tonight being down so much horsepower on such a big track,” said Bruce. “We worked hard all weekend, now it’s time to gear up for a tough week ahead.”
Bruce would like to thank all of his sponsors, Hinchman Racewear, Pro Auto, The Oil Medics, Smileys, SWE, Maxwell Industries, FK Rod Ends, Butlerbuilt, Factory Kahne Shocks, Randy’s Racing Filters, DriversWebsites.com, Racinboys.com, Wilwood, Zemco Headers, Hoosier Tires, Gaerte Engines, Pro Powder Coating, Fuel Safe, Bell, Weld Wheels, and ISC Racer’s Tape for their support through the 2012 season.
ON TAP: The one8 Motorsports team will now gear up for four races over nights kicking things off with a Wednesday night race at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO before heading to the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE on Friday, and capping the weekend off with a double header in Jetmore, KS known as the Steve King Memorial.
