It’s Time for the Silver Dollar Fair
(May 21, 2012)…For the first time in the history of the Silver Dollar Fair at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico, the main grandstand will feature four consecutive nights of motorsports entertainment. Fair manager Scott Stoller has assembled a diverse and enjoyable schedule for “motor-heads” that attend the Silver Dollar Fair. On Friday night the main attraction is Extreme Motocross. It will mark the first time that the infield and the speedway will be transformed into an arena style motocross track. On Saturday night, the popular 12th running of the 200-lap Enduro returns to the fair schedule. Sunday night will feature the exciting Civil War Sprint Car Series. Monday will finish the four night run with the carnage filled destruction derby. All of these events are free to attend with paid admission to the Silver Dollar Fair.
The Silver Dollar Fair starts May 24 and runs through May 28. The fair is held over the Memorial Day Weekend. This year’s fair is appropriately titled “Rev up the Fun”, playing to the motorsports themed weekend of activities. Please visit www.silverdollarfair.org to buy discount carnival passes or find out more information about the other attractions during the fair. Adults (13 and up) are $8.00. Children (6-12) are $3.00. Kids under the age of 6 are free. Friday, May 25, is kid’s days. Children 12 and under are free. Sunday, May 27, is senior Day. Seniors 60 and up will be admitted free all day. The grandstand seating will open at 5pm. There is no reserved seating for the grandstand shows.
Lowell Moural Sr. is building the extreme motocross track for the Friday night show. Lowell, is the owner/operator of Cycleland Speedway, and hosts his own motocross racing at his facility five miles south of Chico. Morual Sr. is expecting over 100 top riders from this area. The motocross race will also include a long jump contest on the front straight.
The 200-lap Enduro returns after taking a two-year hiatus from the fair. Chico’s Wes Brown has dominated the event. Brown has won eight of the eleven previous races including the last six in a row before the event had stopped in 2009. For rules and other information a great website is www.westcoastenduro.org. Also on this night, promoter Dennis Gage will host his first annual Out House Race that is sure to entertain the fans.
The California Sprint Car Civil War Series is the main attraction on Sunday night. The race features the best 360-winged sprint car drivers in California. Traditionally the race hosts over 35 drivers on this special night of racing. Top drivers like Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, Oroville’s Sean Becker and Chico’s Stephen Allard will be vying for the exclusive winner’s trophy.
The fair comes to a crashing halt on Monday. Not only is it the final day but the aggressive and fun-filled destruction derby starts at 2pm. Usually there is not an empty seat in the grandstand as fans come from all over to watch these top drivers go for the glory. The fair pays an astonishing $3,000 to the winner.
