Inside Line Promotions – WEST PLAINS, Mo. (June 9, 2022) – Derek Hagar captured his sixth feature triumph of the season in impressive fashion last Saturday after a change in the weekend’s racing plan.
“The weather and another deciding factor is we are leading the ASCS Mid-South points so we decided to stay on top of that right now,” he said in reference to choosing the ASCS regional event instead of the final races of the USCS Series Speedweek. “Fortunately, we made the right decision and came away with a win.”
Hagar put himself in a good position in his ASCS Mid-South Region and ASCS Warrior Region heat race at Legit Speedway Park, where he advanced from fifth to second place. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and Hagar pulled the No. 1 to garner the pole position for the A Main.
“It was a soft night without a lot of cars,” he said. “I think we started with 13 cars. One blew up in hot laps and then we lost two in a heat race.
“My car stumbled real bad on the start of the feature. Landon Crawley was able to stay with me into turns one and two and he beat me on the exit. He had a really good car. I didn’t really have anything for him. As the race went on my car got a little better and I was able to get closer to him. I wasn’t close enough to make anything happen, but when we got to traffic he zigged when he should have zagged. It gave me an opportunity to do a slide job in turns one and two. He pulled around the outside of me, but I had the preferred line. I stuck the bottom into turn three and was able to beat him coming off the corner.”
Hagar’s last-lap pass marked his third ASCS Mid-South Region victory in four races this season. He now owns a 106-point lead in the championship standings heading into another regional race this Friday at Crowleys Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark.
“Everything has been going our way,” he said. “We have our stuff together with a brand new car and new motor. Things have been working out for us so we’ll just try to keep this rolling.”
