Cole Vanderheiden made his first trip of the year to Buena Vista Raceway (Alta, Iowa) on Wednesday night. A sixth-place finish in hi heat race positioned Cole 10th on the starting grid for the feature.
He advanced five positions in the main event to finish fifth behind Brandon Bosma, Trevor Serbus, Mike Houseman Jr., and Casey Friedrichsen.
Friday night lights brought Cole to Crawford County Speedway (Denison, Iowa), where 13 Race Saver Sprint Cars entered the program. He passed three cars on his heat race to finish third, which positioned him eighth on the feature grid.
He ran in the Top 10 throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in eighth.
Weekend action drew to a close on Saturday night at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway, where 24 racers converged on the 1/3-mile oval. A runner-up performance in his heat race moved Vanderheiden into the main event in the third-starting spot.
On a very challenging track, Cole fought to a ninth-place finish.
He currently leads the latest IMCA Race Saver Rookie of the Year standings and is in the Top 10 in the overall national standings.
