Central Missouri Speedway Night One Memorial Day Weekend Victories go to Poe, Schultz, Cascadden, and Hall!

(Warrensburg, Missouri) Saturday evening marked the beginning of two straight nights of action at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) with 85 race teams on hand. The POWRi Midwest (E) Mods were 25-cars strong, 22 POWRi Lightning Sprints began their second-annual Lightning Sprint Nationals, 21 B-Mod teams were present, along with 17 POWRi Super Stocks.
Main event winners included Jacob Hall in POWRi Midwest (E) Mods, Brendon Cascadden in POWRi Lightning Sprints, Terry Schultz in B-Mods, and Aaron Poe in POWRi Super Stocks. The Memorial Day Weekend events conclude Sunday night with Pure Stocks, POWRi Lightning Sprints, POWRi Super Stocks for a $1,000-to-win, and B-Mods for a $2,000-to-win.

Jacob Hall of Wheatland, Missouri, and previous CMS Midwest Mods winner, Earl Roark, began the 15-lap main event from row one. After a solid run through the heat races, the Midwest Mods main event proved challenging for several drivers. Hall established himself as the perennial favorite from the onset of the caution-plagued event with Roark and Ashlyn Piburn in hot pursuit. The first third of the race featured close competition until several of the front-runners were involved in a turn four incident before lap ten. The incident completely changed the landscape of the race as attrition took its toll. However, this did not blemish the dominating performance of Hall as he ran steady and captured his first-ever CMS victory. Alex Dunwoodie gained 10 positions to claim second with fourteenth-starting Jared Willard moving to third. Cody Bray ran solid in fourth with Dustin Gibbs fifth. Brian Meyer advanced from 23rd on the grid to sixth at the finish.

For the night one Lightning Sprint Nationals main event, it was Quebec Canada’s Tomy Moreau and Kansas City veteran Bobby Layne occupying row one for the 20-lap main event. Unfortunately, a pair of false starts, led to a new front row consisting of Josiah King and Shane Sexton, Lightning Sprints set sail for the 20-lap main event. Sexton quickly moved to the front with King and Brendon Cascadden close behind by lap three. Sexton pulled away by lap five over Cascadden, who started tenth, and King. Caution flew at lap five, setting up a fierce battle for the lead on the restart as Cascadden, of Traverse City, Michigan, muscled his way to the front over Sexton, King, and Trice Roden. Caution slowed the field for a lap 12 restart as Cascadden, Sexton, and Roden occupied the top three positions. The top three went unchanged and unchallenged the rest of the 20-lap distance as Cascadden rolled to the night one POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprint Nationals victory. Sexton finished second over Roden in third. Josh Flood advanced from seventh to claim fourth at the finish with twelfth-starting Chase Fischer fifth, and King in sixth.
Sunday Timeline: Pit gates opening at 4:30, grandstands at 5, pill draw cutoff for drivers 6:15 (no passing points awarded if late check-in), pit meeting 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30 or after hot laps. The running order for Sunday is Pure Stocks, POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints, Super Stocks, and B-Mods.

Mexico, Missouri’s Cole Campbell and Higginsville, Missouri, driver Jeremy Lile began the 20-lap B-Mod main event from the front row. Campbell, Terry Schultz, and Lile quickly separated themselves from the rest of the filed early in the main event. Through the first five laps, Campbell and Schultz gave the fans a fantastic battle at the front of the field, moving from the high to low side of the track in their battle up front. Schultz eventually grabbed the top spot by lap five over Campbell, Lile, Cole Moore, tenth-starting Rex Harris, and Joey Lile. By lap eight, the leaders encountered heavy lapped traffic and by lap 11, the caution slowed the pace with Schultz out front. When green-flag racing resumed, Schultz and Campbell continued their battle up front as Harris moved in to challenge Lile for third. The final circuits of the race clicked off at a fast pace until Schultz ultimately claimed the win, his 72nd career CMS victory. Campbell finished second ahead of Jeremy Lile, Rex Harris, Joey Lile, and Cole Moore.

For the 25-lap POWRi Super Stock main event, Dale Berry of Tuscumbia, Missouri, and defending POWRi Super Stock National Champion, Aaron Poe were the top passing points earners to start the race. Poe moved to the front of the field along with Welschmeyer and Dale Berry during the opening laps. Poe set a torrid pace at the front of the field, and by lap 10, had built nearly a full straightaway lead over Brian Worley, Welschmeyer, and Berry. Worley closed in quickly on Poe through lapped traffic and by lap 16, was aggressively pressuring Poe for the lead through heavy lapped traffic. Poe and Worley ran close at the front and on lap 17, the leaders were fighting for the win through lap 17, when the pair made contact battling for lead. Caution slowed the field on lap 19, shortly after Worley was warned of his aggressive driving while battling for the lead. Poe then led Worley, Welschmeyer, John Brooks, and Brett Wood inside the top five. With Poe out front, Welschmeyer moved to second on the restart with four laps remaining, unfortunately, Welschmeyer went over the turn three and four berm, drawing a late-race caution, just as the leaders were involved in a heated battle up front. On the realignment laps, Worley was disqualified from the event finish for rough driving tactics, blemishing his otherwise spirited run to the front. From this point on, Poe went unchallenged for the victory, his 21st career CMS win, with Brooks finishing second, sixth-starting Wood finished third, while Nick Gibson, Berry, and fourteenth-starting Bobby Ruff rounding out the top six.
Racing continues on Sunday May 29, 2022. Sunday Admissions: Adults $20, Active-Duty Military and Senior Citizens aged 65 to 74 $15, Kids 6 to 12 years old $6, five and under free, seniors 75 and older and individuals permanently confined to a wheelchair are free in the grandstands. All pit passes are $40 regardless of age.
