Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 17, 2022) – David Gravel produced a pair of top-10 finishes last week when the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series ventured into Central Pennsylvania.
The Big Game Motorsports driver posted a seventh-place result on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown during the Duramax Drydene Gettysburg Clash before finishing sixth on Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway, which hosted the Morgan Cup.
“It was an okay week,” Gravel said. “I drew the eight both nights in the dash draw so that wasn’t good.”
Gravel was second quickest in his group and he won a heat race to advance into the dash on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway, where he pulled the highest number – eight – during the dash redraw. He gained a spot to finish seventh in the dash.
“We qualified pretty well and raced well in the heat,” he said. “In the feature I felt like we were okay; not the best, but not the worst. We hung around, but just didn’t have enough to charge to the front. There were 55 cars there so we took our seventh and moved on.”
Friday’s event at Williams Grove Speedway rained out. The team returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday. Gravel timed in fifth quickest in his group before advancing from third to second place in a heat race.
“It seemed like our qualifying lap would be good enough to start on the front row of a heat and the last couple of guys put down great laps, which I didn’t expect,” he said. “Fortunately, we were able to get a great start in the heat and the second-place guy rolled the bottom. I was able to get around him to run second and make the dash.”
Unfortunately, Gravel drew the No. 8 for the dash for the second straight race. He was credited with a seventh-place result in the race.
“We were able to get to fifth in the feature, but we had a restart that was bad and fell to seventh,” he said. “Once you got going there wasn’t much passing or racing so it was all won or lost in the first lap of the start and restarts.”
A trio of races with the World of Outlaws is on tap this week beginning Tuesday at Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, N.J. Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, hosts an event on Friday before the action shifts to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Saturday.
“Bridgeport is a unique place,” Gravel said. “It’s so wide. We struggled there last year, but we’re going with a new mindset. I think that track will promote good racing.
“I’ve won a couple at Attica and we won the earlier race in the season last year. It’s a hard track to feel good at every time. It’s a tricky joint. When it gets slick and you have a full fuel load it’s a tough place.
“Sharon is a super, super slick track. I think we ran fourth there last year. It’s a place you can race at and if your car is good it definitely shows.”
