Cole Vanderheiden kicked off another weekend of racing on Friday night at Crawford County Speedway (Denison, Iowa). With 13 IMCA Racesaver Sprints in attendance, Cole dominantly won his first heat race of his career in the division to earn the third-starting spot for the feature.
He raced in the Top 3 for much of the feature before a few veterans slipped by in the closing laps to push him back to a solid sixth-place behind Casey Friedrichsen, Dusty Ballenger, Gunnar Pike, Mike Houseman Jr., and Jake Greenwood.
Saturday night action found Cole Vanderheiden Racing returning to Eagle (Neb.) Raceway. A stout field of 27 entries were on hand, and Cole started fourth in his heat race.
Unfortunately struggles in the heat race pinned him deep in the B-Main grid. With only the Top-5 finishers moving onto the feature, a ninth-place finish brought his night to an early end.
The team looked for better luck on Sunday evening at Huset's Speedway (Brandon, S.D.), and indeed their outing would go much better than Saturday night's outing. Starting third in his heat race, Cole stormed to his second heat race win of the weekend.
In the 25-lap main event he started fourth. While Cole didn't get as good a finish as he had hoped, he still came away with a solid 13th-place finish to round out the weekend's action.
