Kaley Gharst – Victory Right Away!

(Bill W) April 25, 2012 – Kaley Gharst arrived in the states and proceeded to find Victory Lane right away last Friday night at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska! The Decatur, Illinois driver piloted the Scadden #6x to the win in ASCS-Midwest action. He added a fifth place finish in Saturday’s finale.

Kaley started seventh in his heat, and charged to a third place finish. “We had a good run there in the heat,” he says. “It was enough to get us in the redraw for the feature!”

The draw saw Kaley start inside row two for the main event. He moved into second and found a way to the point in traffic. “We were able to get the lead about halfway through or a little sooner,” he says. “Mike Boston was in front of us. Once we got to traffic, he tried to get around them, and we were able to get under him. We just kept the car on the bottom, and we were able to keep it down there for the win.”

Rain during the week made for a fast track. “It was pretty heavy on the bottom,” says Kaley. “They had some standing rain down there from a couple days before. All the moisture really soaked in the track. You could get around the top early in the night, but once it dried out, the bottom was the place to be.”

The start to the season for the team could not have been better. “It was good to start out the year with a win for them right away,” says Kaley. “It shows all the hard work that Jeremy (Scadden) and Brad (Sparks) put in over the winter. I’m looking forward to quite a few more this year, hopefully.”

Things started well in Saturday’s finale when Kaley brought home a heat race win. “We started third in the heat,” he says. “The track was different than Friday. You could run the top in the heats.”

Starting third in the feature, Kaley would come home with a fifth place finish. “We didn’t quite have the forward bite we needed in the car for the feature,” he says. “We slipped back a couple of spots. We learned a little bit about what we need to do on a slicker track. Hopefully, we can use that the next time we come back.”
