College Night at SDS

College Night at Silver Dollar Speedway This Friday
(April 24, 2012)…We know that the college life can be a long, stressful journey. So this Friday night, April 27, put the text books down and come out to the Silver Dollar Speedway. Promoter Dennis Gage is offering a College Night discount on admission, a hot dog eating contest and discounted beer prices during this Friday nights auto races. Local college students from Chico State and Butte College will enjoy half off their general admission into the grandstands.
Another advantage of coming to the race tonight is the chance to win an ipad3. The good volunteers from Relay for Life, supporting the American Cancer Society, will have a booth at the speedway this Friday night. During the night they will sell raffle tickets for the chance win an ipad3. Before the races are over, we will draw one winning lucky number and that fan will win the ipad3. Relay for Life volunteers will also be collecting money throughout the night for the American Cancer Society.
Bring your current college identification card and the price drops from $12 to $6. We are also looking for a few brave students to engage in a hot dog eating contest. All participants will receive a t-shirt and the winner will also receive a sweatshirt. The Speedway is also offering a special on Miller Light and Coors regular beer. Both beers will be just $2 fresh off the tap.
Front grandstand gate opens at 6pm with racing to start at 7pm. General adult admission is $12. Chico State or Butte College students with current I.D. are $6. Juniors and senior prices are $10. Children prices are $6. All of this activity takes place at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
Five racing divisions will be on hand to entertain the fans. The diverse field of cars will include the winged 360 sprint cars, limited late models, street stocks, economy winged sprints and dwarf cars. The winged 360 sprint cars will have a rare chance to race on a Friday night. There is no points awarded, just a special open show with Civil War rules applied. Chico’s Jonathan Allard will pilot Rod Fauver’s Race Ready Rentals #64. It will mark a rare appearance for Allard in a 360 winged sprint car. Auburn’s Andy Forsberg is looking continue his momentum from last Saturday nights win at Placerville and grab his first win of the year at Chico. St. Helena’s Rico Abreu is scheduled to make his third in a row start on Friday nights at Chico. Redding’ Tyler Wolf, Paradise’s John Michael Bunch and Chico’s David Tarter are all expected to show.
Both the limited late models and the street stocks will make their second points appearance of the year. Randy McDaniel won the late model race last Friday night. Mitch Machado won the street stock main event on opening night. The economy winged sprints will make their first start of the year at Chico. This upstart division is focused on keeping the cost of winged sprint car at a minimum while still allowing good, competitive racing.
The always entertaining and spirited Dwarf Car division is set to race at Chico this Friday night. The Dwarf Cars always bring a good car count and interact with the crowd by doing their annual Frisbee toss after the National Anthem.
