Brian Brown – Sedalia, Knoxville Await This Weekend!

(Bill W) April 16, 2012 – Brian Brown will be visiting two of his favorite track this weekend. Friday night, he’ll compete with the World of Outlaws at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, and Saturday he will be at the season opener at the Knoxville Raceway. The Brian Brown Racing Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team finished third at the Valley Speedway in Brian’s hometown Grain Valley, Missouri last Friday night.

After starting outside of row one of his heat race, Brian went on to win. “We were able to get off to a good start there at Grain Valley,” he says. “We were good out of the chute, and I felt good hot lapping. You have to put yourself in a position for the redraw, so it was good that we were able to get the win in the heat.”

Brian drew a seven for the feature, starting him inside row four. “We didn’t get the best start in the world,” he says. “I think we were back to eighth, ninth or tenth in the first couple laps. We just dug too big of a hole there early. After that, we just drove as hard as we could.”

Brian picked off cars one at a time on a fast racetrack. “We were up to fifth by one yellow, and then up to fourth for the other,” he says. “Other than that, it was pretty much clean and green.”

The #21 would end up third at the checkers. “Jonathan (Cornell) did a good job, and so did my buddy, Chad Ely,” says Brian. “I don’t want to take anything away from those guys. We just needed to be better early on in the feature to have a shot to win.”

Brian is looking forward to this weekend at Sedalia and Knoxville. “Both tracks have been good to us over the years,” he says. “At Sedalia, we have a pretty good package that we use. Hopefully, Friday, we can go there and contend for the win. We have the car, team and driver to get it done. We just have to go out and lay a good qualifying lap down and put ourselves in position to win. Having Impact Signs, Awnings and Wraps, Ditzfeld Transfer and Champion Brands there will be good. They are all Sedalia based companies. That along with our local crowd will make it great.”

The two-time Knoxville Raceway track champion will try to repeat his season opening win at the famous half-mile in 2007. “It’s always good to go back to Knoxville, especially on opening night,” says Brian. “There’s always a lot of hype surrounding it. It will be good to get up there and see all the folks from Casey’s General Stores, and we’ll be there on opening night with all their customers and employees.”

The team has fielded a fast car since their return from California. “Hopefully, we just have a really solid week,” says Brian. “Really, we’ve been pretty good since we got back from the west coast. I feel like we’ve been in contention to win every single night, and hopefully, we can just keep building on that. If we do, we should win our share of races.”

Brian's Q&A

Travis Coleman asks: Is there a reason you always seem to do well in Sedalia?

Brian answers: It’s kind of like a hometown track. I think we raced there more than anywhere when I first started racing. I think that’s the biggest thing is the comfort and the characteristics of the track. I really want to win there with the Outlaws. I think it is one of the tracks that we have a good chance to do it. It makes it a little bit easier just knowing the characteristics. It’s a fun place to go.
