Bloomington, Ind.—April 15, 2012— Consistency is one of the key ingredients to being successful over the course of the nearly 80-race season when competing with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Kraig Kinser has had a very consistent start to the 2012 campaign, finishing among the Top-10 in seven of the first nine races and currently finds himself fourth in the series standings, following the series first stop of the year in the Midwest this past weekend.
The third-generation driver made his first start with Hendrickcars.com adorning his No. 11K Maxim at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky, on Friday, April 13, finishing 11th. The second scheduled event of the weekend at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri on Saturday, April 14 was postponed due to rain.
“We sure were really hoping to get two races in this weekend,” said Kinser. “Mother Nature certainly has not been a sprint car fan over the last month or so. It’s good that they were able to reschedule the Pevely race and we look forward to going there in the fall.”
Kinser was quickest of the 29 drivers at Paducah in hot laps, touring the high-banked 3/8-mile in 13.299 seconds. He followed that up by recording the seventh-fastest lap in time trials, which put him on the outside of the front row for the first eight-lap heat race. Kinser ran in the second spot for the first couple of circuits, before Stevie Smith, who set fast time, got around him for second, with Kraig finishing third.
Kinser lined up 12th in the main event, which was slowed by just a single caution on lap-12. He ran near the Top-10 for the duration of the 30-lap contest, finishing in the 11th position. The native of Bloomington, Ind. moved to fourth in the series standings, and is just 30 markers behind point leader Sammy Swindell. The 2005 Knoxville Nationals winner is one of five drivers that has earned seven Top-10 finishes in the first nine races of the season.
“It was a challenging track on Friday night,” shared Kinser. “It might have helped to have had another caution or two, but you never know. We were really fast in hot laps and the track slowed down in time trials. We learned a few things and look forward to racing on more 3/8-mile tracks as the season goes on.”
The event at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 13. The series will compete twice this season at Pevely, with the Ironman 55 taking center stage on Saturday, August 4.
Kinser returns to action aboard the Hendrickcars.com Maxim on Friday, April 20 at the half-mile Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., followed by a visit to the high-banked quarter-mile bullring at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. on Saturday, April 21.
“I can’t wait to get back to the track next weekend,” noted Kinser. “We’ve only raced once in the last two weeks and just two times in the last three, so I am pretty anxious to get some races in. I always enjoy getting to go to Sedalia and Haubstadt.”
