Inside Line Promotions – HAUBSTADT, Ind. (April 25, 2022) – The lone World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event of the season in the home state for Jason Sides has arrived as Bristol Motor Speedway hosts the World of Outlaws Bristol Bash this weekend.
The paved track known for showcasing a pair of NASCAR events each season has been covered in dirt for the second straight year. While the half-mile oval in Bristol, Tenn., is located in Sides’ home state, the journey is 490 miles to the Northeastern corner compared to Sides’ shop in the Southwestern part of ‘The Volunteer State.’
“There’s actually probably a half dozen tracks we’ll race at this year that are closer to the shop,” he said. “Tennessee is a big state and going from one corner to the other is about eight hours.”
Sides ended in the Last Chance Showdown during the opening round of the event last year before placing 23rd in the feature on the final night.
“Volusia on a wet night is faster, but it doesn’t smash you into the corner like Bristol,” he said. “The seats they have now have you locked in, but you’re smashing into the bottom of the seat. You could almost tighten up your belts more is what it feels like when you’re going around the turns.”
Sides ventured to Tri-State Speedway last Saturday. He qualified 19th quickest, placed seventh in a heat race and was third in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event. The night concluded with a 22nd-place result.
Friday’s event at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., rained out.
“We’ve had quite a few rainouts lately so fingers crossed we can have some dry weather for a while,” he said. “It’s a lot easier to get into a rhythm in racing when you are out there more often.”
