Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (April 19, 2022) – Jason Sides is bound for Illinois and Indiana this weekend.
The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series visits Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., on Friday and Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., on Saturday.
“We’ve only been to Tri-City a couple of times since they cut the track down,” he said. “I remember I led it the first year after the change (in 2007) until we got a flat. The right rear blew out and that was it.”
Sides returned to the track the following season – the most recent World of Outlaws race at Tri-City Speedway – and finished 10th.
He has a lot more experience at Tri-State Speedway, where the Outlaws have visited at least once per season during each of the last 18 years.
Sides competed at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 last Saturday after wet weather washed out Friday’s opening round. He timed in 32nd quickest before rallying from eighth to fourth place in a heat race.
“I was in the right place at the right time,” he said. “I went to the bottom when a couple of guys were racing up the track and was able to sneak by them. We also avoided some melees out there.
“It was similar in the feature. I was right around the bottom trying to stay out of the way. It was way too rough. I guess they put some new dirt on it and with the water table being so high there they haven’t been able to work it a lot. Other guys were running through the ruts, but I just tried to stay out of the way and survive the race.”
Sides did just that as he ended 16th and without any damage to his sprint car.
