Hafertepe Prepares For Success at Family-Owned...

Sam Hafertepe Jr. and The Plumbfast Racing Team are gearing up for a rare opportunity to race at the Hafertepe family-owned Lone Star Speedway this Saturday when The ASCS Lone Star Region comes to town for the $3000 to win LoneStar Sprint Invasion. The LoneStar Sprint Invasion will be Sam’s final race in the area before he heads out on the road for several months to compete for The Zemco Racing Team and Rudeen Racing.

“I’m really excited to be racing at home,” said Sam. “We opened the season at our track last week with The Lucas Oil Late Models and it was a huge success for us and I’m hoping we can keep that momentum and put on another incredible show for the fans this weekend.”

Hafertepe has yet to win at Lone Star but has been close before including a 2nd place run with The World of Outlaws in 2009.

“I would absolutely love to get our first win of 2012 at our track,” said Sam. “We have been struggling on clay with our 360 program so I think our track surface is really going to help us out a lot. We have gone ahead and made some changes moving forward and I think you’ll see us back up front this weekend.”

While nothing would make Sam happier than to put The Lone Star Speedway 15h in victory lane he knows it will be no easy task.

“There should be plenty of competition this weekend,” said Sam. “I would expect a few National guys to show up. Gary Wright won this show last year so I imagine he’ll be back. Wayne Johnson just kicked our butts pretty good at Waco and I believe he plans on coming. The Lone Star region also has some pretty good runners like Matt Covington who has beaten The ASCS National Tour guys at our track in the past. We are going to have to be operating or these guys can make you look pretty bad really fast.”

The Lone Star Sprint Invasion will also be the last race in the area for quite some time for Sam and The Plumbfast Racing Team.

“Following the race at Lone Star we are going to start heading east,” said Sam. “We are going to drop a 410 in our car and take on The Outlaws at Paducah and I-55. Once we run that weekend we are going to tow our stuff back home and head back to Tower City, PA to get things going in The Zemco car. We’ll be running The Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial. Our schedule really picks up after that and we’ll be racing pretty steadily around Pennsylvania. I’m really looking forward to getting back out there and seeing what we can do.”
