Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (April 6, 2022) – Jack Dover is pleased with the progress made during his season opener last Saturday at I-80 Speedway.
Dover knocked the rust from the offseason off by advancing from fifth to fourth place in a heat race and from 12th to third in the A Main. The nine positions gained in the feature were the most of any driver, giving him the Hard Charger Award.
“We had a new car and motor we hadn’t run in a few years so it was supposed to just be a learning night,” he said. “I’m very pleased with earning a podium, especially considering the changes we made with shocks and bars and everything over the winter. We wanted to try to get comfortable in the car and I felt really good in it right away.”
The podium performance marked the third straight season that Dover has started with a top-five run. However, the night was anything but easy.
“In the heat race I was experiencing a vibration,” he said. “I went through everything in my head. The only thing I really changed from last year was my fuel system. I changed one thing out on that and it got rid of the vibration for the feature so that worked out well.
“The Kosiski’s did a great job with the track. It was probably the smoothest I-80 I’ve been on in five or six years. It was super smooth. About halfway through the feature it started rubbering down. Luckily we had made moves pretty quick early in the race. We got up to fourth before the rubber. With about seven laps to go the leader crashed so we were up to third, but after that I was trying to conserve tires and hold our line. I honestly believe if it hadn’t rubbered down we had a good shot at winning.”
Dover planned to make his season debut in the Rick and Chris Bowers’ No. 81 sprint car this Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Unfortunately, it appears he will have to wait a couple more weeks as the team is awaiting an engine part.
Dover, who recently released his 2022 racing schedule on his website, noted that he plans on tackling nearly two dozen races in the No. 81 this season. The schedule includes returning to weekly competition at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., where the team earned a fourth-place finish in the championship standings and the Rookie of the Year Award last year during their first year in 410 competition.
“Chris and Rick have stepped up even more and made the car a lot better so I’m really excited for this year,” Dover said. “Last year we exceeded our expectations and ran really well, earning our first 410 win and a top five in points at Huset’s. I can’t wait to see how this season goes now that we have some experience and confidence.”
Dover will fill in his schedule with other 410 and 360 races in the Midwest in his No. 53 sprint car.
“I’m glad to have our great partners returning this year and we’re thrilled to welcome Phil Durst on board,” he said. “I’ve known him throughout my racing career and I’m excited to have his support.”
