Belleville, IL. (4/3/22) Dustin Cormany would claim the first event of the 2022 racing season for the POWRi New Mexico Motor Association by finding speed at Vado Speedway Park all night Cormany would use precision driving and a bit of luck to earn his first career series victory.
Packing the pristine pits with eighteen stout and eager open-wheelers, Colt Treharn and Dustin Cormany would each grab their heat racing victories with Shon Deskins earning the night’s high-point award to notch a pole-starting grid for the twenty-five lap feature event.
Green-flag feature racing would find the pole-sitting Shon Deskins appear to be in complete control by snagging the lead early while cruising to a commanding lead over the front-running Rick Ziehl and Dustin Cormany.
Late-race dramatics and lapped traffic would come into play for the leaders as Deskins set the pace on the penultimate lap of the feature event around the finely-prepared Vado Speedway Park. Making inadvertent contact while entering turn three would send the leading Deskins spinning with many drivers able to pass before recovering and continuing the event under green-flag conditions.
Overtaking for the lead would find the fourth-starting Dustin Cormany inherit the front of the feature while holding on for the final lap of the feature race to claim his first career series feature victory. Ricky Hood would fly through the field from starting eleventh to finish a close runner-up holding the contending Rick Ziehl to place third with Michael Fanelli fourth and Caleb Stelzig rounding out the top-five finishers for the POWRi NMMRA/POWRi Sunset Grill Vado Non-Wing Sprints.
