Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 21, 2022) – Garet Williamson posted a pair of 14th-place finishes last weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway during the season-opening doubleheader for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
The Bryant Paver Motorsports competitor advanced from 19th on Friday and from 21st on Saturday. His five positions gained on Friday was tied for the fourth most and his seven spots on Saturday was tied for the second most.
“It was an all right weekend,” Williamson said. “We had speed, but it all didn’t click like it needed to.”
The team was second quickest in its qualifying session on Friday. However, a fourth-place finish in a heat race relegated Williamson to a B Main.
“We qualified good, but fell to fourth in the heat,” he said. “We ended up having to run the B Main. The track was gut slick after the heat races. It was following each other around the bottom the rest of the night. We squeaked by on the bottom and got what we could.”
Williamson finished second in the consolation race to transfer into the rear of the main event. He picked up five positions in the feature for the 14th-place showing.
Different track conditions yielded similar results on Saturday when Williamson timed in sixth quickest in his group. He gained one position in a heat race to finish fifth before rallying from sixth to third in a B Main to advance into the A Main. He continued to move forward capped by the 14th-place outing.
“The track took rubber from the heat races on,” he said. “On the start of the feature I passed a bunch and we had a restart when I drove through the middle to get a couple more positions. Then everybody got single file so passing was at a premium.”
Williamson returns to action with the ASCS National Tour this Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. He posted a career-best performance at the track’s premier event – the Short Track Nationals – during his most recent visit to the oval last October.
“I think we get around there good and I’m excited for it,” he said. “If we can have some luck and race well I think we’ll be fine.”
