Wilson Wraps Up Southern Swing With Pair of Top 10s During USCS Series Doubleheader at Southern Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – MILTON, Fla. (March 10, 2022) – Greg Wilson pocketed his first two top-10 results of the season during the final weekend of a season-opening trip to Florida.

The Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed Seeling Motorsports team finished fifth and 10th, respectively, during a USCS Series two-day event at Southern Raceway on Feb. 25-26.

“I felt like the first night was the first time we had really gained on the race car,” Wilson said. “I really felt like going into the Saturday night we’d be better than we were. Unfortunately, pill draw can affect you pretty heavily in the USCS format. We started last in our heat race and only got by a car. Then we probably didn’t make the right adjustments. We were trying a few things because we were starting deep. We battled the whole time down there getting any kind of traction. Once we got home, Andy (Potter) and I looked at some things and talked about some changes that if we want to try some of that we should do more work in the shop than throwing it at it at the track. But overall, I’m glad that it ended with some better runs.”

Wilson finished third in a heat race to kick off the action on Feb. 25. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event and he gained a handful of positions to post his first top five of the season with a fifth-place showing.

“I was pretty happy,” he said. “Milton is a pretty hard track to pass on because its so sandy and silty. It doesn’t rubber down, but it almost races like that because it races so narrow. We fell back to maybe 12th at the beginning and came through there. We got to where I could change lines in turns one and two and we started gaining some spots. I felt like we were probably a little better than a fifth-place car, but it was really hard to pass. we were all over the next two ahead of us. I got under fourth a couple of times, but couldn’t get it done without being super aggressive. I was happy with the result.”

The event wrapped up on Feb. 26. The pill draw wasn’t in Wilson’s favor as he started sixth in a heat race. He gained one position to earn enough points to lock into the main event in the 13th starting spot.

“After Friday I felt like we were headed the right way,” he said. “Then on Saturday I think we went one way with the setup when we should have gone the other. If things had played out right we probably could have ran around fifth again. We just didn’t have traction and drive off the exit of the corners. In the Florida tracks you have to figure out a way to create some drive. But we moved forward and loaded it back in the trailer so that was a positive.”

Wilson rallied to score a 10th-place finish. It was his third top 10 in the last four starts dating back to last season.

The team hopes to kick off the season in Ohio on March 18 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica.
