Inside Line Promotions – PAIGE, Texas (March 9, 2022) – David Gravel capped the Texas Two-Step with a top-five result last Saturday, giving him four top fives in five World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series races this season.

The Big Game Motorsports driver continues to lead the World of Outlaws championship standings as the action heads to the West Coast for the next three weeks. It starts this Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare.

“We haven’t been to Tulare in a long time, I think three years,” Gravel said. “It’s a track where I’ve had success. It’s a tricky place, but we’re excited to go back to one of my favorite tracks in California.”

Last weekend’s doubleheader began on Friday when Gravel qualified 10th quickest. He then finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race to lock into the 10th starting position in the A Main. Gravel ended with a seventh-place result, extending his top-10 streak to 12 straight races dating back to last season.

“We were just off a little bit each time we hit the track,” he said. “You try to go forward as much as you can and seventh was it for us that night. We took that seventh and moved on to the next race.”

The Texas Two-Step concluded on Saturday with Gravel improving his results. He timed in ninth quickest, advanced from third to second place in a heat race and gained a spot in the dash to place fifth.

“We were able to get into that dash,” he said. “We didn’t get the ideal dash draw, but being a six-car dash it wasn’t that big of a deal. Then in the feature we were able to put ourselves in position. I felt we were a contender, but the last 10 laps were a struggle. If we could go back and do it again we’d change some things. It’s all minor details. We were still good for most of the night and we made an improvement from Night 1 to Night 2. I guess we were too good too early.”

Gravel quickly worked his way into the runner-up position and briefly took the lead in traffic with approximately 10 laps remaining. However, the handling became difficult in the final third of the race and Gravel held on for a fifth-place result.

He enters the California swing as the only driver with four top fives in the first five World of Outlaws races this season.
