Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (March 9, 2022) – Dominic Scelzi is excited to defend his home turf this weekend when the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series invades California for the first of three straight weeks.
The action begins Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, where Scelzi was victorious six times last year.
“Any more I think you have to treat it like any race,” he said. “To win a local race or a national race, you have to put yourself in position. If we can qualify well and get ourselves in position in time trials that’s the biggest hurdle we’ll need to cross. If we can do that I think we’ll put ourselves in a good position to contend for wins. We’re in a good place as a team right now. I’m excited to get back to racing with the World of Outlaws.”
Scelzi posted a sixth-place result during his most recent World of Outlaws event last year and he rallied from 22nd to 15th during the last Outlaws show at Thunderbowl Raceway in March 2019. His career-best World of Outlaws result at the track was a fourth-place showing in 2018.
“I think we’ve been hot and cold there over the years,” he said. “That’s just been the results overall. I don’t think that’s mattered whether it’s an Outlaws race or a local race over the years. We’ve been a lot hotter there lately. We won races in the slick, won races when there was grip and won races when it was rough last year so that gives us a lot of confidence.”
Scelzi also plans to race with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ the following weekend at Merced Speedway in Merced and Ocean Speedway in Watsonville as well as at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield and Perris Auto Speedway in Perris during the final weekend of the World of Outlaws spring swing through California.
“I love racing with the Outlaws,” he said. “I love when they are in town. I miss racing with them night in and night out. I had a lot of fun when I was traveling. It’s great being able to gauge how we are as a team and stack up with the best drivers in the world. If you’re good at something it will show and if you’re bad at something it’ll really show.”
