Inside Line Promotions – PAIGE, Texas (March 9, 2022) – Garet Williamson produced his career-best result with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series last Saturday during the finale of the Texas Two-Step.
The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver made the A Main both nights of the event at Cotton Bowl Speedway, where he made his debut. Williamson placed 21st on Friday before earning a 17th-place result on Saturday.
“It was a nice weekend,” he said. “We made all the laps and we were fast. They were strong runs for us. We made good laps against good guys. Any time we get to race before the ASCS season starts is good for us so we won’t be rusty. I think we have a dozen races under our belt already so I feel confident.”
The Texas Two-Step began on Friday when Williamson qualified 26th quickest. He advanced from ninth to eighth place in a heat race, from sixth to fifth place in the Last Chance Showdown and from 22nd to 21st in the A Main.
“We struggled with qualifying,” he said. “We weren’t horrible, but just didn’t get a good lap in. In the heat race we were fast and were right behind the guys in the transfer. We got there, but couldn’t do anything because everybody with the Outlaws is so good. We were fast in the LCS so that was nice to build some confidence going into the A Main.
“The first night we were kind of behind the eight ball. We were seeing where we could be faster. It was all new to us. We learned from that and each time we hit the track we got faster.”
That showed on Saturday as Williamson improved his result during each race compared to Friday. He timed in 14th quickest and placed sixth in a heat race, which locked him directly into the main event.
“Qualifying set us up really good,” he said. “On the initial start of the heat race we got to fourth, but it got called back. We moved around after the second start and lost a spot, but I was able to maintain a transfer position. In the feature we got to race against some great drivers. Normally in the 410 stuff it’s about holding on and making good laps. It felt great to actually be able to race with guys.”
Williamson battled around the top 15 throughout the feature before finishing 17th.
The team plans to take this weekend off before the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season begins March 18-19 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 49th annual Spring Nationals.
