PETERSEN MEDIA- Just after spending a week racing in Arizona, Bud Kaeding traveled across the country and took on the USAC National Sprint Car Series, as they had their season opener in Ocala, Florida at Bubba Raceway Park.
Action kicked off on Friday night, and Kaeding was quick out of the box aboard his BK Motorsports/High Five Pizza/Alviso Rock backed entry.
During qualifications, Kaeding timed in with the 10th fastest lap against the star-studded field, and would line up in the second row for his heat race.
The San Jose, CA native would then score a third place finish in his heat, and transfer to the feature, where he would line up in the 10th spot.
As the feature event rolled around, the track began taking rubber, and passing was at a high premium.
With laps clicking away, and everyone fought for the bottom of the track, Kaeding was able to slowly pick up positions, and found himself in the fifth spot in the waning laps of the feature.
Kaeding would secure the fifth spot, as he chased Bryan Clauson across the line.
Friday nights event was washed out just after qualifications.
Saturday’s event came with clear skies, and a water soaked tracked, that caused for a hooked up race track during the early stages of the night.
Kaeding timed in with a dismal 20th place run during time trials, but would utilize his front row starting position in his heat, to pick up the win, and transfer into the feature.
Lining up in the 18th spot, Kaeding got his elbows up in the feature event, and worked his Factory Kahne Shocks/Yak Graphics/Maxim through heavy traffic during the race.
When the race ended, Kaeding worked his way up into a 10th place finish at the stripe.
“It was a weekend of two polar opposite tracks,” said Kaeding. “My guys did a great job both nights, and I think we had a pretty decent car in the rubber on Thursday and then tonight we were able to make some moves. Though you’re never excited about not winning, we’ll put it in the box in one piece and keep working.”
Kaeding would like to thank Kaeding Performance, Sprint Car Innovations, Alviso Rock, BZE, Factory Kahne Shocks, Racing Optics, K&N Filters, Yak Graphics, ButerBuilt, and Brown and Miller for their continued support.
