PETERSEN MEDIA- Bud Kaeding had quite the weekend in Peoria, Arizona during the Winter Challenge as the third generation driver recorded finishes of second, third, and seventh place.
The weekend got off to a strong start for Kaeding, who charged his BZE/Alviso Rock/Maxim from his ninth starting spot, to a third place finish in his heat, that ultimately put him on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.
Kaeding got the jump, but had Charles Davis, Jr hot on his trail. After leading the first two circuits, Davis, Jr got by Kaeding, and Bud chased him throughout the duration of the feature.
Getting alongside Davis several times late in the feature, Kaeding didn’t quite have enough to get the spot back and chased him across the line.
Saturday saw Kaeding score a fifth place heat race finish, and gridded the field in the seventh spot.
The unique day feature created a very racy, and slicked off racing surface. Kaeding thrill the Canyon Speedway crowd as he went high and low to fight his way up to a third place finish.
Sunday was the most exciting day of the weekend for Kaeding and his Factory Kahne/Yak Graphics backed entry.
Lining up in the 19th spot, for yet another day feature, Kaeding proceeded to work his way through the field.
“Starting that far back, you just worry about keeping your nose clean and avoiding any wrecks,” said Kaeding.
That he did, as he put on one of the most exciting drives of the afternoon, as he advanced 12-spots to score a seventh place finish to close out the weekend.
“It was nice to get back in the car this weekend,” explained Kaeding. “It would be nice to get back in victory lane, especially after ending 2011 with a handful of seconds. Friday we had a shot, but Davis was a little better, and Saturday and Sunday we started a little farther back then we would of liked, but it was a pretty good weekend overall.”
Bud Kaeding would like to thank Kaeding Performance, Sprint Car Innovations, Alviso Rock, BZE, Factory Kahne Shocks, Racing Optics, K&N Filters, Yak Graphics, ButerBuilt, and Brown and Miller for their continued support.
