Shane Golobic Looks to Stay Red Hot in 2012

PETERSEN MEDIA: One of the hottest drivers in California at the conclusion of the 2011 season was 20-year-old, Fremont, CA driver, Shane Golobic, as he picked off numerous wins, and top finishes at some of the biggest races the west coast has to offer.

2011 was what some would call a break-out year for the Golobic, who has been behind wheel of a sprint car since he was just 16-years-old.

The young charger showed his versatility over the past season as he made a total of 49 starts aboard a winged sprint car, both 360ci and 410ci, non winged sprint car, both injected and carbureted, and midgets tallying 8 wins, 6 in a sprint car while two were in the Doug Bock owned midget at the Placerville Speedway, as well as posting 18 podium finishes, 19 top fives, and 28 top ten finishes.

What made his season the most impressive was the fact that he posted a 3.5 GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering at San Jose State University.

Shane posted these numbers jumping in various cars throughout the season as he wheeled the Bullett Racing No. 35 owned my John Taylor, the GetSOM Motorsports No.9 owned by Steve Osborne, and the potent and infamous Joe Vonschriltz No. 121.

Some of Golobic’s biggest accomplishments in 2011 are simply tough feats, as the San Jose State student posted a 10th place finish at the Mini Gold Cup in Chico, CA only to back it up by snagging third place finish during the opening night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions at the same facility during the summer.

Golobic also picked up two feature event wins with the tough California Civil War Series, as he also proceeded to win the last three feature events at the Ocean Speedway against the Taco Bravo Series including a pair of exciting last lap passes over Bud Kaeding and Tommy Tarlton, that he then followed up with an exciting 40-lap tussle with King of the West Champion, Tim Kaeding during the Fall Nationals where he ended up second.

“2011 was unbelievable,” explained Golobic. “I have to thank everyone who helped us, as well as all the people who gave me the opportunity to drive their cars like the Bock family, John Taylor, Steve Osborne, and of course Joe Vonschriltz.”

As the calendar shifts to 2012, Golobic will get right back to work as he his scheduled to team back up with Doug Bock and wheel his midget at the upcoming Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, OK where there are already 259 entrants scheduled to compete.

The youngster will not only ride his momentum from the end of 2011, but Golobic is one of only 12 drivers who have made the last two Chili Bowl Saturday night A-main events.

“The Chili Bowl is a tough race,” explained Golobic. “It’s a race that features stars from every series across the world, and to make the A is a tough feat, but I think we have a strong group in place to make a run at our third feature.”

Golobic is slated to hit the dirt in the Tulsa Expo Center on Thursday night January 12th, for his prelim night during the Chili Bowl.

Beyond the Chili Bowl, 2012 looks very promising, as Shane has been picked as the driver of the GetSOM Sports/Ray Shiedts Electric/Ifly No.9j entry for Steve Osborne during the Taco Bravo Series competing at the Ocean Speedway. Golobic will also continue to run the Doug and Joey Bock midget in the USAC Western States Midget Series.

When time allows in his busy schedule, Shane will pilot the No. 121 machine in the bigger events around the state kicking off with the Mini Gold Cup in March at the Silver Dollar Speedway. If the team can accumulate a few more supporters they will look to run various KWS races as well as the Gold Cup and the Trophy Cup.

Shane and his family would like to thank Joe Vonschriltz ,Doug and Joey Bock, John Taylor, Dan Manhoff, Country Builders Construction, Steve Osborne and Shane’s crew- Dennis Golobic, John Golobic, Bill Fosbenner, Keith Offill, Jeff Castlio, Mike Zieske, Chris McKim, Glen Gavron, and Glenn Carson for all of their support through last season.
