About Steve

Biography
How many years in the sport/what age started racing?
I have been in speedway for 12 years.

How did you get into Speedway?
I was watching the 250 micros one day at nowra speedway. Seen Mark Richards win the Aust title, went and talked to him after the race, bought his car and trailer and raced 250s from then for 2 years. Then went to formulas for 3 years then 410s. We watched sprinters at Sydney, said they were too fast and would never do it.

What is your biggest accomplishment in Speedway?
Winning the first A main in a 410 was great, then the rest come from there. Winning numerous State titles in formula 500 was unreal, and being on the podium at the Australian title 3 years in a row was great too. Accomplishments are hard to describe, As a car owner definitely bringing an American to Australia was rewarding Sammy Swindell and Jason Meyers both are memorable times. From this you then build a network of friends around the world. Travis Senter in Arkansas, Hagopians

Steve Caunt's History

How many years in the sport/what age started racing?
I have been in speedway for 6 years.

How did you get into Speedway?
I was watching the 250 micros one day at nowra speedway. Seen Mark Richards win the Aust title, went and talked to him after the race, bought his car and trailer and raced 250s from then for 2 years. Accomplishments are hard to describe, As a car owner definitely bringing an American to Australia was rewarding Sammy Swindell and Jason Meyers both are memorable times. From this you then build a network of friends around the world. Travis Senter in Arkansas, Hagopians and Meyers in California, Ralph Wren in Texas, Mark Stallard in Delaware. The list goes on. If i didn’t do speedway i would never of gone to USA and I would have not known anyone from Over There. Now my family visit these people when abroad.

Your goals for the WSS season?
This season we have to catch up on the two years lost from not being on the road. Main goal is to run well and stay safe. We have a bunch of new sponsors to get exposure for and represent. Winning a round or two would be great, A top 6 on the ladder is our aim. Travelling to the tracks we went to a few years ago will be nice also. I would also like to get Jason Meyers to extend his commitment to include WSS events in some way.

Your equipment for the new season – new/used, brands, etc?
We have 4 new KPC Outlaw cars for the season, painted and fully assembled that arrived August 1. I am so lucky to be able to run the gear Jason didn’t get to use. We also liked his motor package so I am running some new Garrett’s to. We still like KRE products, i just was offered a package deal I couldn’t refuse. Jason will run 1 car also. I am guessing i will need to save a new one for him !!!!!!.

Recent form/recent results:
Last season we ran the Sydney season and finished 6th in the Points. That was a tough slog and fortunately we escaped with little damage for the season. At Easter we nearly pulled of three feature wins in a row. Leading the Nowra feature all the way till 2 to go, pipped for second. Other than that there was some 600cc wins and a wingless top 4 on the maiden run, that was the season in total.

How will you cope with the full schedule?
The schedule is ok to deal with. Over a two month period, the fact is its 8 weeks. We have Bought the whole Elite Racing USA operation, parts are a plenty, we also know if you use parts you are not in the points !!!!. When we go to WA, we will join up with The Browns again so we can commute back in between. I am looking forward to the WSS format again, going racing with a friendly bunch of people and going to tracks that appreciate your effort. Seeing the fans we haven’t visited for a while will be great also.
